Fernley is a small town in Clark County, Nevada, United States. The population was 1,902 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Las Vegas metropolitan area. Fernley is bordered by Henderson to the east and south, Paradise to the west and north, Boulder City to the northwest and Douglas County to the northeast. The original settlers in what is now Fernley were Mormon missionaries who began farming there in 1868. In 1889, a post office called Fernley was established; it was renamed for General James Fenton Fernald in 1903. The first store opened in 1886 and the first schoolhouse in 1895. Fernley started as an agricultural community with a few haystacks and 10 farms known as "Fernleys." By 1910 there were over 100 businesses including four banks, two hotels/motels, threeauto dealerships (including one that became Chrysler), five churches (two Baptist and three Roman Catholic), four schools (grades K-12th grade through high school), two hospitals (one for surgery and one for maternity care) and six ranchers/pastoralists working 20-50 acres of land producing beef cattle, horses, sheep, bats or other animals. One of the early pioneers of Fernley was Hyrum Smith who also founded Smithsville about 15 miles away on Highway 95A which served as transportation between those two villages until 1959 when Interstate 70 replaced it providing better access from all directions. A post office called Smithsville was established on July 1st 1899 but closed after only eight months due to lack of mail volume from Vernal Valley busting open along I-70 making travel much more difficult than necessary especially during prohibition era when goods had to be transported across state lines without being seized by local law enforcement). The first grocery store opened at 6:00am on November 3rd 1906 near corner of “H” St & Main St.(now Commercial Ave). That store later became occupied by Safeway before becoming another Chevron station after they bought out most of their competition including Store No 7 back then located just off Harmon Ave./Hwy 95A today known as Saks Fifth Avenue(closed 2007)). In 1920 construction began on new elementary school building which still stands today following incorporation by city government following a vote by citizens prior to1920 unincorporated areas within town limits voting unanimously not to become part of city Limits; future Mayor Harry Janssen voted against incorporation because he felt that too much tax money would go into City Limits instead should be spent helping residents built homes rather then paying for a new school! In 1923 State Route 190 intersected with US Routes 91 & 9 forming what is now Business Loop I-10; business growth continued throughout Roaring Twenties with many developments such as Post Office #1 being built 1951 followed by Bank #2 1963 followed by Rancher #3 1965 followed By 1973 when I-15 made its way through downtown causing significant changes throughout town center; today'sBusiness Loop I-10 corridor Buffet@fernleyservice

It is one of the most recent towns to be founded in Clark County and it was platted on July 15, 1880 by John Wesley Fry as part of a wagon train heading from Sacramento to Las Vegas. Fernley was named for A.J. Fernald who owned a farm there until his death in 1893. The town center was laid out in 1887 and incorporated on December 12th of that year. The first store opened its doors in 1888, and the first post office was established in 1889. The economy of Fernley has been based primarily on agriculture since its founding and until recently, it has been one of the few places within Nevada where corn processing remains an important industry. Today, however, Fernley also contains a variety of retail businesses including two grocery stores as well as several service businesses such as mechanic shops and health clinics. Fernley is home to many historical landmarks which include the old courthouse which built in 1892 and now serves as a museum; Ladd’s Saloon which served as an early stop for travelers on their way to Las Vegas; the Fry House which still stands today and overlooks the town square; Griffith Park which offers views of downtown Reno and surrounding areas; plus numerous other local attractions like baseball diamonds, dance halls, churches and community centers
