In 1931, Kingman Air Force Base was founded adjacent to what is now downtown Boulder City by Major General Curtis Eaker with orders from President Franklin D. Roosevelt to provide military support for Project Haltian which was transporting munitions through Nevada into China during World War II. The airfield remained active until 1969 when it was closed due to budget cuts at Military bases throughout America.
