In the early 1800s, Boulder City was an important stop on the Trail of Tears. The city was founded by Mormons in 1847 as a place to ranch and store horses and cattle. By 1860, the city had grown to include a small town and several businesses. In 1868, Brigham Young appointed George A. Smith as mayor of Boulder City. Smith made Boulder City one of the most prosperous cities in Nevada during his time as mayor. He also built the first Masonic Temple in Nevada and funded construction of other local landmarks such as the University of Northern Nevada (UNN) and Lincoln Financial Field. During World War II, Boulder City played an important role in supporting military activities in western Nevada. The city's Arsenal Ammunition Plant produced munitions for Allied forces during World War II. The plant also produced vehicles and other equipment used by local police officers and firefighters during the war. After World War II, many residents left Boulder City for new opportunities in Reno or Carson City. However, some residents who remained in Boulder City continued to enjoy its cultural attractions, such as its art galleries and music venues, until the late 1990s when they were forced to abandon their homes due to developers' plans for redevelopment within walking distance of their homes. This caused the demand for new hat designs, so Hats and Shoes Company decided to create new designs specifically for American soldiers. In 1821 they introduced the “Hats of War” series which featured a brimmed hat with an American flag on top. These hats were very popular among American soldiers because they were well-made and fit well on their heads. In 1865, Hats and Shoes Company produced another series of firearms hats called “Hats of Peace” which featured a blue bandanna around the circumference instead of a brimmed hat shape like those used before. These pistols did not have barrels but rather round disks that faced forward from behind each ear like modern hunting helmets do today

The first permanent settlement in what would become Boulder City was made on July 3, 1870 by brothers George and John Nevins. They named their town for the nearby Boulder Mountains because of the large boulders that could be seen from their house on Donner Street. The Nevins family operated a ranch and grocery store in town until 1911 when they sold it to William Tatum who renamed it Reno. In 1912, Tatum founded Boulder City High School which became one of the leading schools in town until it closed in 1983. In 1951, Boulder City lost its status as an incorporated city when it merged with nearby Reno to form the Town of Reno-Boulder City. The merger was considered necessary because of overlapping school districts and highway routes; both towns had been drawing students from neighboring Clark County towns since before statehood there were any organized communities within Nevada. When Reno-Boulder City disbanded in 1993, its citizens voted to reincorporate as a city under new name: Boulder City-Reno Municipal Corporation In 2007 Mayor Bob Crowley announced he would not seek re-election due to health concerns related to his sclerosis but would continue serving out his full term through 2009; he had been mayor for six years prior thereto He also served as Vice President of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) District 1 from 2002 until his retirement effective December 31st On October 17th 2017 Mayor Bob Crowley announced he will run for reelection in 2019 against CDE candidate David Goldstein
Boulder City is located in Clark County, Nevada. It was platted in 1864 and named for Boulder of the Colorado Rockies. The first post office was established in 1865, and the first school was built in 1868. As a mining town, Boulder City became a center of the silver industry during the mid-19th century. The population increased rapidly after silver discovery on the Unamide Mountains in 1861, and by 1870 Boulder City had outgrown its original downtown area. A new courthouse and jail were built east of downtown in 1879, and an additional block of buildings were erected west of downtown between 1886 and 1888 to house businesses associated with goldmining operations. In 1896, Boulder City became an incorporated city under state law. The economy changed dramatically following World War II when vast amounts of natural gas were discovered near Reno, which led to increased development around Boulder City.
