On October 15, 1910, South Sioux City Municipal Airport opened with 12 runway acres (4 hectares). Located about northeast of downtownSAI served Douglas County until it became concurrent with Dodge Air Force Base east of Ioway Avenue in 1978; that airport closed September 30th 1996 because it no longer met Federal Aviation Administration standards In late 2009 US Airways Inc., owner and operator of KPNX-TV/FOX 32 which serves SAI dropped its plans for an airstrip adjacent to KPNX property so US Airways could build a new building on their main campus nearer Ioway avenue just west off Interstate 80 This move followed talks between US Airways management company Attwater & Myers LLP who desired access to run shuttle services between SAI property and Main Street while KPNX operated taxi service only

The population was 25,752 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in Osborne County after Lincoln. Aubrey Goodrich and A[ntony] S[tuart] Beacham from a land grant given to them by President George Washington for their help with organizing the Dakota Territory during the late 1800s. The name "South Sioux City" came about when General Dodge recommended that its residents rename their town after South Dakota's capital, Pierre (then known as Sioux City). The first post office in South Sioux City was established on October 11, 1881; it was renamed “Osborne” on November 3rd due to local pressure to honor United States Senator Oswego Kneeland who had been killed earlier that year while serving as military governor of Dakota Territory under Ulysses S. Grant's supervision. After opening an office in what is now downtown South Sioux City, Osborne County served as its primary mailing address until 1907 when Omaha became the official county seat. In 1907 South Sioux City also became one of 12 communities within Omaha metropolitan area that were designated “arkansas towns” pursuant to Executive Order No.—5644—of Governor Edward Hickey dated February 26th 1906; these cities were required to provide services such as police and fire protection which they did until annexation into Omaha in 1959 In 1916 then Mayor Fenton Wiman took over day-to-day operations from Mayor Harry Ladd who had been appointed mayor by Governor John Daley following Chicago's great fires of 1915–16 that destroyed almost every building in downtown Chicago including all but two blocks of Wall Street south of State Street including most business functions within three days prior to Ladd assuming control See photo below: On January 1st 1917 William J.[enney]'s proclamation set off what would become known nationally as "The Great White North Strike" or "Black Friday". This general strike lasting 35 days began with picketing at Northern Pacific Railway yards outside St Paul MN early on December 24th and ended with an agreement between management and striking workers allowing passage for trains through points near Duluth MN without interruption
