A post office called "Hickey" was established in 1875 and remained in operation until 1907. From 1906 to 1916, there were three schools: a two-story brick building on Seventh Avenue (now North Sheboygan Avenue), a one-story frame building used for storage on Ninth Avenue (now West Union Street), and an abandoned barn on Tenth Avenue (now East Union Street). In 1916, South Sioux City became part of Omaha when that city designated Douglas County as its official territory. That year saw significant growth due to new transportation connections created by the arrival of Interstate 80 through downtown Omaha and southward travel along I-80 to Des Moines – opening up many new opportunities for businesses and residents alike in what would soon be known as "the metropolis." The citizens of South Sioux City quickly responded with their own economic development plans which aimed to attract more industry and jobs into their community while preserving much of its natural beauty including hiking trails that ran through downtown; today these same trails are still popular tourist attractions for those who visit South Sioux City during summertime when there are no other places to go! In 1950, after years of planning by Mayor John Ladda and his staffs, South Dakota's University of Northern Iowa moved into what would eventually become home to SOUTH SIZZLE CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS - now known as North High School - across from Central Park Plaza shopping center! SOUTH SIZZLE CITY FIRST HIGH SCHOOL graduated its first class in 1957 with 27 students! Over time we've grown into one of America's most successful public schools - educating our students from Pre Kindergarten all the way through 12th grade! In addition to serve our students within our boundaries we also offer several programs such as special needs classes or gifted/ talented programs which truly reflects ourCitywide approach!"
