Scottsbluff, Nebraska is a small town located in Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska. The population was 2,837 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs Micropolitan Statistical Area. In 1868, the government of Nebraska passed an act legalizing slavery within its borders and Scottsbluff became one of the slaveholding towns in that state. The town prospered through the years as a slave center with many African Americans working in local businesses and farms. However, after emancipation came about in 1865, many black men from Scottsbliff left for Kansas to work on railroads or other farm pursuits. By 1920 only a few white residents remained in Scott's bluff. Today, most people here are descendants of those who lived here during slavery and Reconstruction times. The primary industry in Scottsbluff today is agriculture; however, there are also some small businesses and services associated with tourism such as restaurants and hotels. There is also a considerable amount of housing stock available for sale or rent throughout the community; it is typically not easy to find rental accommodation near a shopping mall or downtown area. The first settler in what would become Scottsbluff was James Aiken who arrived on horseback around 1846 when he attempted to cross the Missouri River into what would be Nebraska Territory land that year. He named his new location "ScottsBlUFF" after his home country Scotland (now Northern Ireland). Aiken had no idea what he was doing when he made this decision but quickly realized that if he wanted to keep his property offuerable to others then he needed some form of protection from potential squatters or settlers looking for free land to build their homes on - something that wasn't always easy to come by in those days! One of the earliest realizations by Scott's Bluff people about being surrounded by hostile territory was when they were attacked by two Lakota Sioux warriors near their settlement late one night back in 1851/early 52 according tosquatters magazine . This attack led to an all out war between these two tribes over control of this piece cf Indian Territory which would continued until 1890s! 1

Scottsbluff, Nebraska is a town in Kearney County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 692 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Omaha–Council Bluffs Regional District. The original Scottsbluff settlers were farmers and loggers who arrived in 1868 from Scotland. They named their community after General Mariano Pérez de Francia's erstwhile possession of Scottsburg, Kingdom of Galicia, Spain. In 1870, Governor of Nebraska Territory Gideon Weller ordered the erection of a US military post on the site where present-day Scottsbluff stands to protect travelers between Kearney and Dodge City. The first post commander was Colonel George Hinkleberry. As word spread about this new military installation, more settlers began arriving in 1872 from Ohio and other states looking for land to settle near Omaha and Council Bluffs. The first store opened in 1876 by Wm’n Aiken and Bros., with four barrels of dynamite as its main currency item for sale. By 1880, there were ninety stores operating in ScottsblUFF/Dodge City area alone; seventy-four percent were operated by men only! The invention of the internal combustion engine allowed for larger businesses to open up throughout the early 20th century; during this time period also two churches were built: First Presbyterian Church (1881) and Methodist Episcopal Church (1903). Many successful businesses flourished during this time including Jussie’s Barbecue House which served hamburgers until 1978 when it closed down due to lack of customers; Anheuser Busch bought it out and reopened under that name in 1992; another business which thrived during this era was Wells Fargo bank which had an immense presence northward along I-80 through Kearney County until it closed its doors in 2006 after more than fifty years service at I-80 & US 151 intersection! One residential development that took hold during this time was Red Sands subdivision located east of town off US 151 southbound just before you reach Interstate 80.–This subdivision consisting primarily homesites with access to large yards became one million dollars worth within a few short years! Inexpensive++ single family homes adorned with white picket fence enclosures proliferated all around town while brand new shopping malls such as Sears Center struggled to keep pace with changing consumer trends over the last several decades! In recent years however things have startedto change again as ScottsblUFF has seen some renaissance growth including numerous job postings being sent out via social media from local businesses seeking available qualified individuals!
Scottsbluff was founded in 1870 by Capt. George Scott and his wife, Mrs. Susannah Bemis. The town was named for the bluffs that rise to the east of it. The first store in Scottsbluff was built on Pikes Peak Street and operated from 1871-1878. In 1887, the Scott family donated $5,000 to fund a school in Scottsbluff. The first Scottsbluff High School opened in 1889 and continued operation until 1959 when it merged with nearby Omaha High School.
