In 1881, a man by the name of Jameson sold a lockbox pistol to P.O.W. #5 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. The lockbox pistol was designed by John Brown and produced by Springfield Armory in 1881-82 as the Model 1886 (see below). It featured an 8 lb., 2 oz., brass framed, split action revolver with a 4 inch barrel that could be used with either one or two hands. The lock box pistol is considered to be one of the most popular pistols ever made and continues to be manufactured today by several different companies including Colt’s Manufacturing Company and Ruger Firearms Corporation. Scottsbluff, Nebraska is a small town in the U.S. state of Nebraska, located on the Missouri River. The population was 1,674 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kearney, NE Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by Scotsman John Scott in 1851 as Scottsville and named for his father-in-law, General James A. Scotts (1820-1892), who had helped lead American forces against Mexico during the Mexican–American War and later served as Minister to Russia. When Scottsville became a village in 1872, it retained its name but changed its mailing address to honor General Scott's wife and daughter: Mrs. Elizabeth Scott Pruitt (1839-1915). The present day community of Scottsbluff began as a log cabin settlement on high ground near the confluence of the Missouri and Cherry Rivers about five miles south ofpresent day Kearney, Neb., on May 5th, 1860 pursuant to an agreement between John Dickey (a pioneer) and Gideon Welles ( de facto sheriff until April 1861). Dickey donated land for a new township which would include all of what is now Scottsbluff Township; Welles chipped in $5 for each settler’s purchase from local merchants living along either bank of the river when he first opened up his store there in November 1861. On November 6th, 1871 authorization was given by Territorial governor Jesse Lubbock to establish a post office at Scottsbluff with mail service coming only twice monthly via boat from Sioux City, Iowa Territory due to lack of infrastructure at that time across most western territories - this being one reason why Omaha finally got their own mail service starting June 1st 1876! After serving just over two years as Postmaster General within Nebraska Territory under territorial administrator George Bird Wright (!),store owner Rufus Hanks purchased title to Post Office property situated today within current town limits on December 3rd 1880 from Wright himself!!! This 123 acre parcel included 2 buildings plus soil & water rights for future development...the first building built there became known as “Hanks House” still standing today! On December 29th 1890 William McKinley was sworn into office as President after winning election fair and square following months long campaign waged primarily through print media including popularized stump speeches like “An Address To All Americans” delivered live before an enthusiastic crowd at Fayette Hall in Omaha…. Following McKinley’s inauguration processions traveled throughout northwestern United States stopping at various communities along their routeincluding Aberdeen Proving Grounds where military supplies were unloaded prior to shipment westward…the last stop before reaching Omaha was made at Wichita Falls Texas where Gov Mfgr Samuel Morse met with him prior to ordering all eastern trains stopped enroute
