The town also hosted several functions related to the war including dances at local dance halls and parades through downtown streets adorned with U.S. military vehicles. In 1957, Scottsbluff annexed much of neighboring Omaha proper creating what is now known as Downtown Omaha. Since then, Scottsbluff has seen various incarnations including becoming home to multiple universities including UIChicago (1962), Creighton (1973), UNM (1981), Drake (2002) and USF(2007). The economy has been diversified with sectors such as manufacturing (-14% from 2000 to 2010), health care (+4%) and entertainment (+7%).
