In 1872, a post office was established here and remains operational to this day; mail deliveries are now made using helicopters instead due to high postage rates associated with letter delivery through traditional methods like stagecoach service today! In 1902, General George Armstrong Custer arrived at ScottsblUFF on horseback searching for Indian chief Crazy Horse after he allegedly stole some horses from settlers nearpresent-day Lincoln; as part of this search he passed through the area on his way back east (and thus likely also saw ScottsblUFF for the first time!). subsequent research has since shown that this story isn't true - however it does give us one interesting tidbit about life outside of town: even General Custer wasn't really staying long when he reached NEbraska!
