Papillion is a town in Nebraska, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs-Hastings, NE Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Papillion" comes from the Sioux word "pa-pi", meaning "place where we stopped." One theory suggests that the first settler in this territory was James A. Papillion, who arrived in 1869 and named it after himself and his brother George Washington Papillion. The most recent resident to call Papillion home is Samuel P. Welch, who moved to the area in 1958. The land comprising present-day Papillion was acquired by Nebraskan ranchers Titus Custer and David Denny in 1854 as part of their Rancho Dominguez grant. In 1865, Custer sold all his land east of Platte River for $5,000 to Julius Ewing and others who organized what would become Omaha County. The town site was platted on January 12th, 1886 by Jens Christensen with plat no. 259 on what is now Fourth Street between Santa Fe Creek and Wabasha Avenue; it contained 16 lots including two square blocks (now First and Second streets). According to one account, when settlers arrive they build temporary shelters made out of branches or other materials they can find around the area until permanent structures can be erected; these structures include a small sod house built about 1900 by John Koehler which still stands today near Third Street south of Main Street; another early structure also remains standing: an old schoolhouse which served as a post office from 1892 until 1915 when it burned down; however, many older buildings have been destroyed over time by weathering or vandalism including a log cabin located off US 60 just north of Main Street northwest of milepost 5N during the late 1800s before being replaced by an ugly modern building next door some time later; finally, there are several old frame houses remaining along SeventhStreet conducted through various real estate deals etc.; though not typically considered pioneer architecture because they were not designed specifically for settlement or farming purposes but rather functioned as simple dwellings throughout their lifetimes they are included within this characterization given that much progress has been made since then notwithstanding some unfortunately common problems such as roof collapse due to heavy rains etc., particularly affecting newer buildings especially those on main street . In 1912 residents formed the Town Board & adopted a new constitution & adopted ordinances setting up government services such as libraries@ schoolhouses@ fire departments@ constables@ Streets Department& water supply organization @ Drainage District There were also petitions received for incorporation into larger cities but only one application accepted resulting in Omaha City becoming your capital city instead . In 1955 residents organized themselves again forming a town board & adopting a new constitution establishing papillonite schools here too known popularly as papi schools with newer facilities available near SixthStreetwestofMainStreet Additionally there's now internet access available at any convenience store across town making life easier even if you don't own property here so long live papillonites!
