Papillion was first settled in 1878 by Danish immigrants who named it "Papillion" after their farmstead on the Sangamon River. The name may have been derived from ancient Indian words meaning "place where the water flows." In 1907, an agricultural community called Wapello was founded nearby and Papillion became a village in 1909. It received its current name from its post office which opened on July 10, 1912, and remained so until it closed on October 15, 1997. The history of Papillion begins with Jens Nielsen Rasmussen who started a small farming operation around 1878 near what is now Papillion Village. He named his land "Papillon", which means "waterfalls". Rasmussen's two sons took over the farm after their father died in 1881. They developed the land into a large agricultural community that thrived until World War II when it was destroyed by flood damage caused by heavy rains and floods. reconstruction began immediately and many businesses were built including a grocery store, bakery, hotel/motel and two churches - one Baptist and one Lutheran - which remain today as key landmarks in the town center. By 1951, there were only 155 residents living in papillon but thanks to Bridges Road development it has since grown to more than 2,000 people with over 100 businesses located within minutes of downtown Papillon! Today's economy centers around tourism with visits to various attractions such as Canby State Park (a popular fishing spot), Black Hawk Lake (the largest body of fresh water on the Great Plains) and Keystone Dam (one of three operated by x-country potatoes). Additionally, papillon is home to several major corporations including PepsiCo., Johnson Controls Inc., General Mills Co., Macy’s Incorporated and Anheuser-Busch InBev Canada Limited among others; making it an important hub for economic development across central Nebraska!

Papillion is a small town in Nebraska, United States. The population was 907 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Papillion-Lincoln Micropolitan Statistical Area. The name means "papago" in Spanish and refers to an American Indian tribe. The first record of a permanent settlement in what is now Papillion was made in 1851 when a party of men from Missouri under the leadership of Major John C. Fremont journeyed west on their way to California. They stopped at what is now Papillion, Nebraska, while on their way south. A group of six Mormons, led by Brigham Young, founded the town in 1852 as a Mormon mission station on the banks of the Platte River near present day Omaha, Nebraska. In 1854, gold was discovered at Plattsmouth Creek and soon after silver too appeared thereabouts; accordingly, claims were filed for both minerals and land around Papillion. In 1861 local ranchers banded together to form the Omaha Ranchers' Association to promote ranching interests in central Nebraska then underdeveloped by farmers who had not yet seen enough good grazing land available for cattle marketing outside Wichita County Kansas which they called " Laramie." On November 5th that year, five men met at Papillion with intent to purchase 160 acres (61 hectares) adjoining Hennepin Ranch east of town for $5 per acre ($0.84 per hectare). From this point forward until 1865 it would be primarily through meetings and negotiations that items such as water rights or other matters concerning ranching lands would come before the Legislature or Executive Department for decision - something that still happens today! In 1865 legislation authorizing construction of a railroad from Omaha to Lincoln was passed but due to financial problems only 12 miles (19 kilometers) were built before finally being abandoned due to lack of interest throughout much of central Nebraska! On July 1st 1870 Washburn Vining Company organized with charter members George Washburn and James Wickersham as presidents: “To secure advantages without ceasing our intercourse with all parts o f America we have formed this company with its primary objectthe promotion o f agriculture” Consequently agricultural farming became one mainstay within village limits until well into the 20th century while manufacturing slowly replaced agriculture as an important economic activity especially during World War II when vast amounts o F munitions were produced here including many B-29 Superfortresses!
