Gunsmiths of the time were able to design and create mechanisms that rotated firearms in many different directions. One of the most important earlygun accessories was the gun pivot swivel, which allowed guns to be rotated about their longitudinal axis. This allowed for easy reloading, since it eliminated the need to adjust each weapon's position independently. The 18th century saw an increasing trend towards using clockwise and counter-clockwise rotating barrels on handguns and cannons. This gave rise to the modern revolver, which relies mainly on rotation around its bore axis. Swivels also became popular for attaching scopes and other sighting devices onto rifles during this period. In 1851, Major John Brown submitted his patent for a rifle that featured a pivoting barrel with two revolving dials attached at either side of the muzzleloader stock. Brown's invention was soon adopted by military forces all over the world, helping make rotary pistols one of history's most common firearms device

He named it for Edward Omahaguna (1768-1836), lieutenant governor of Dakota Territory and future Territorial Governor of Iowa Territory. Omaha's incorporation as a town occurred on February 14, 1851 by order of Territorial Governor George Armstrong Custer following an act passed by Territorial Legislature at its meeting that week in bill number 434. The fortuitous location near river crossings made possible early growth in this unincorporated community that had no central government or services other than those provided by volunteer fire departments. The first post office opened in Omaha on October 6, 1852 and remained open until it closed on July 15, 1907due to mail fraud committed by mail carrier Wm Halleck Bentley III which netted him $5,000 USD
Omaha's history begins with the Sioux Indians who were living in the area when white settlers first arrived. The Omaha people were originally from Minnesota and they moved to Nebraska in the 1800s. They began to make their way in the land and by 1851, they had built a village called Omaha on the edge of present-day Omaha City. The town grew quickly and by 1865, it had become an incorporated city. Omaha’s growth was due to its location as a crossing point for both trains and travelers heading westward. It also became a center of trade because of its position as the only major city within easy reach of Iowa and Illinois. In 1915, Omaha joined what was then known as the United States Army Air Forces during World War I which helped contribute to its rapid growth. The city experienced another period of growth during World War II which saw it become one of the largest American cities after Pearl Harbor. After World War II, Omaha experienced some decline but has since recovered and is now one of America’s most thriving cities
