The town was founded on land donated by Major Amos Eaton and named after Captain David Barron's flagship HMS Beagle which had anchored off the coast of England during that year's Gold Rush (1848). In 1855, railroads reached Omaha through platting out tracks along the shoreline of Lake Doniphan which allowed goods to be transported quickly and efficiently to markets all over eastern North America! By 1860, Omaha had become an important transportation hub with easy access to everything Denver and Chicago had to offer; becoming known as "The Breadbasket of America" due to its high quality flour mills available throughout central Nebraska Territory - one reason why it remained an agricultural center well into the 20th century. In 1890, local ranchers formed a cooperative called The Open Range Improvement Association to promote grazing operations outside of downtown; effective regulation helped keep prices low for everyone involved until about 1930 when weather conditions became unfavorable for agriculture which caused prices skyrocketing! In 1945, following World War IIbool Deshler bought several hundred acres near downtown from Seeger & Co.; this location would become home to Deshler’s Museum before he died there in 1957 unmarried while still owner/operator having also left behind several thousand dollars worth of museum pieces! Today much of downtown is preserved as part of its original architecture thanks to City Planning Services Ordinance No 9-1997 which requires historic preservation when property values exceed $10 million
