The meeting in Fremont resulted in the organization of Fremont Township on January 10th. On February 14th, 1872, an act was passed providing for county organization within Nebraska Territory. County organizations took place on March 11th and April 2nd. The first county courthouse was built in Fremont on May 25th. In 1874 an act was passed making Nebraska a state. This event is celebrated annually as Nebraska Day by various groups throughout the state.
