George Hennepin County sheriff John Prentice ordered his deputies not to bring any guns into town during this time period because he felt that such weapons would be confiscated if they did so. However, within days of Sheriff Prentice’s order citizens had gathered guns and began shooting at passing trains on the tracks outside their city limits (see map below). The shootings continued until late night when deputies arrived backup and ended the situation without any injuries or fatalities (see image below). The following year saw another increase in violence across the Midwest due to Railroad Strike #10 which took place between October 10-13th nationally(see map below). This strike resulted in several deaths including one shot through windshield of vehicle driven by local business owner George White (see image below).
