Passenger service resumed along a short line built by Iowa Pacific Railroad subsidiary Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway after World War II brought economic prosperity to North Platte through heavy industry development such as mining and agriculture; however, this era also saw some social unrest due to white flight from rural areas for more prosperous urban jobs opportunities during postwar prosperity years across America generally speaking. World War II led to increased military activity around Sioux City which created more demand for goods and services essential to support soldiers stationed there; accordingly, businesses throughout downtown North Platte quadrupled their sizes during 1945 alone thanks to wartime stimulus programs like Hiring American wanna-be’s program which encouraged businesses owners with employees who could not find work outside their establishments to open new stores or expand existing ones - often doing so near military bases where housing and other supplies were abundant because prices for land were low enough relative to real estate values).
