Some notable historical events from Portsmouth include: -In 1865 local farmers united with other farmers in a march on Topeka to demand better treatment from then-Governor Philander Smith after they were denied flour privileges by his administration -In 1898 Partridge family donated land comprising parts of what is today North Hampton Street & Prospect Avenue NW in Portsmouth for use as public school ground & Boys High School -On December 12th 1908 Mayor Worthy delivered remarks before a group of civic leaders convened by President William McKinley welcoming Ulysses S Grant into the United States following his inauguration – this event marks Portsmouth’s first incorporation as a city -In 1927 Captain Fenton took command unit 313rd Bombardment Squadron Ninth Air Force stationed at Eglin AFB during World War II – squadron flew strategic bombing missions over Japan
