Lincoln, Nebraska is a city in the U.S. state of Nebraska, on the border of Iowa and Illinois. The population was 117,764 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in Nebraska after Omaha. Lincoln is the seat of District 1 of the Nebraska legislature. Grant–appointed commissioners who investigated Indian affairs in Nebraska after an uprising by Native Americans known as The Great Sioux War (1885-1887). Grant then appointed John Fetterman as commissioner in 1890 which ended Reconstruction in South Dakota while continuing Reconstruction in Nebraska; this period is also referred to as "The Gilded Age" because wealth had become concentrated among a few people near the top of society while wages remained stagnant for most working class people statewide. From 1901 until 1907 Governor Charles Goodyear led a campaign against white child labor laws passed by Congress under President Theodore Roosevelt; Goodyear successfully opposed these measures with public opinion solidly behind him even though many business leaders boycotted his gubernatorial run because they did not support progressive policies at home or abroad (Goodyear retired from office following that term). In 1907–1908 George Creighton became governor after Goodyear's death; Creighton followed Roosevelt's example by opposing some key New Deal programs such as Social Security but continuedwar efforts through military spending during World War II which earned him national popularity later in life despite some controversial actions including ordering troops into Mexican territory without warning Mexico City about their presence (Creighton died prior to any action being taken). After Creighton's death another long term incumbent George W Bush was elected governor with no major party nominations; Bush won re-election unopposed three years later with almost 60% of the vote due largely to his unpopularity with conservatives over traditional Republican Party stances on social issues like abortion) Bush left office after four terms due primarily to partisan infighting within his own party but he has been widely respected since leaving office both inside and outside professional circles even though much younger presidents have been more successful than he has been—most notably Bill Clinton who effectively ran against all expectations during his first term only to win reelection handily two years later despite significant economic challenges caused by NAFTA/GATT negotiations) Lincoln experienced significant growth following World War II thanks partially to Interstate Highway System construction which connected various small towns east-west along what is now I-80/I-90 Motorway northeastward from Omaha creating new job opportunities across wide swaths of central and eastern Nebraskatheater industry began appearing throughout downtown areas once again beginning around 1960 formerly mostly Off Broadway theaters were converted into large shopping malls starting circa 1965 with gradually declining attendance rates culminating around 2000 when very few theaters remain open except for one occasional show per year
