One of the earliest sources for ammunition information was a journal kept by Captain Amos Kendall and his team of volunteer soldiers during the American Revolution. The journal entries provide valuable insight into ammunition usage and design throughout the war. In 1853, Captain James H. Lyon founded the first Ammunition Manufacturing Company in Lincoln. This company manufactured matchlock rifles and shotguns used by law enforcement and military personnel. From this company, many important advancements were made in Ammunition manufacturing including: development of propellant charges (ejection ports), rifling, jacketed bullets,and more. In 1907, Captain Lyon's son-in-law William Troup founded another ammunition company in town called Wm. Troup & Sons Ammo Co., which became one of America's leading ammo manufacturers until it closed its doors in 1934. In 1933, local businessmen Fenton Robinson and Orville Noyes merged their businesses to form Brownells Inc., which remains one of America's leading ammo companies to this day! He then served as speaker of the house from 1875-1877 and again from 1880-1889 before becoming president pro tempore of the United States in 1889. He won re-election twice but died at age 44 after a long and successful presidency. His first term as president included some important changes such as panhandling laws being passed that eliminated begging on streetsides; he also signed laws creating schools for African Americans and establishing government research institutions such as Yale University and Princeton University
