The area that now makes up Lexington was originally populated by Native American tribes who lived there for centuries prior to European settlement. In fact, some believe that what is now known as Kentucky was once part of this same territory! When white man first arrived in this area they were looking for new land to settle after experiencing such amazing natural resources as oil shale and gold at nearby Rush City (now Council Bluffs). So they set out westward through what is now Kansas Territory towards what is now Nebraska Territory; their ultimate destination being Fort Laramie which lay just east of Wichita Falls on the Red River Valley near present day Beloit Rapids (in Texas). It wasn’t until early 1821 that John Custer made his famous trek across central Oklahoma country into Indian Territory having earlier destroyed all resistance by ordering his men cleanly slain all twenty-six Sioux chiefs at Battle Creek while under cover of darkness on July 4th 1810!!! This event forever changed America’s relationship with Native Americans with resultant battles such as Coweta County War (1861) which led directly thereto involving 1st Cavalry Regiment commanded by General George Armstrong Custer himself
