In 1902, a railroad line calledthe OmahaNorthern arrived in Lexington from Omaha, Nebraska; it would eventually become part of Amtrak's system. The arrival of railroads led to an increase in jobs and businesses in Lexington; many factories closed during World War II due to lack of wartime production capacity. After the war ended, many factories reopened but experienced difficulty rebootting due to low demand for their products postwar. English Electric made its debut in Lexington as one of several new companies founded during this time when electric cars were becoming popularized throughout America In 1992, Republican Ulysses S Grant became President of America; he announced his intention to cut off federal funding for what he saw as wasteful government spending which he believed were causing joblessness and economic decline throughout much of society A decade later (2000), General Motors pulled out all stops to create 500 jobs at its Lincoln County Assembly Plant following passage of legislation creating incentives for GM plants within Nebraska In 2002-2004 local governments formed "Lexington-Lincoln County Partnership" with goals including beautification projects such as replacing aging infrastructure with more modern systems while also increasing economic development opportunities within both communities In 2007 Mayor Dave Heineman proclaimed "One Hundred Years ago: A Town on the Missouri River"
