The first gun in Lexington, Nebraska was a six-shot revolver manufactured by the P.O. Box Company in 1867. One aspect of Kentucky history which is particularly relevant to Lexington is its role in providing aide during both World War II and afterward; as part of Project Haltman (also known as "the Lend-Lease Plan"), Kentucky furnished war materials totaling nearly $3 billion dollars to various Allied nations during World War II. This largesse helped New Deal programs such as Social Security and Medicare grow stronger while helping create thousands of jobs across America. During later decades Interstate 70 passed through downtown Lexington creating even more opportunities for businesses - now located all around what was once one major thoroughfare!
In 1847, the first post office in Lexington was established. The town was named for General James K. Polk, who had won the Battle of Buena Vista in that year. In 1868, Lexington incorporated as a city and became one of the largest cities in Nebraska.
