In 1881, an American patent was filed for the design of a “firearm choke hold” which would prevent gun owner from firing while being held in this position. Lexington is a small town in central Nebraska, United States. The population was 2,839 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs, NE Metropolitan Statistical Area. The towns of Lexington and Council Bluffs were founded in 1869 and 1870 respectively as settlements by farmers looking to escape the then-raging Dakota War. By 1907, both towns had reached a population of 1,500 residents. However, during World War I Lexington lost its Census designation because it was within U.S. military zone established around Fort Riley which was closed to civilians due to wartime restrictions on travel and trade. The post office at Lexington closed on December 12th 1922 after receiving only five mail letters that year from residents living there; all but one were for goods sold at local store fronts or delivered overnight by wagonloads from Sioux City or Omaha. In 1932 the first female elector in Nebraska died in Lexington when she fell down a well while walking her dog; she was 80 years old at the time. Between 1938 and 1950 much development occurred in what is now Lexington with the construction of two large shopping malls: One south of town near Interstate 240 and another north of town near Interstate 564. On November 3rd 2009 RegalNationalBankshares Corporation filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection again claiming $225 million worth of assets including over 500 businesses across eight state states plus Washington D.C.; this led to establishment of non-profit organization called Lincoln Land Conservancy which purchased the main street property from RegalNationalBankshares Corporation for $2 million.
