La Vista is a small town in Nebraska, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs, NE Metropolitan Statistical Area. He built a log cabin on a bend of the White River where he lived until his death in 1865. His daughter married John Fenton, who founded Fenton City about two miles away from La Vista in 1872. In 1870, J P Perrine bought land southwest of La Vista from Abel Burdick for $1,000 cash and began construction on what would become Perrine Townsite. In 1873 he became also its first mayor when he won election as one of three men appointed by Omaha Mayor Amos Kendall to survey and plat boundaries for new townships within Omaha proper. By 1880 Perrine had added eight more villages (later renamed cities) to his original town: Bellevue (1902), Beloit (1913), Carver (1920), Council Bluffs (1925), Dodge City (1927), Highland Park (1929), Lincolnwood (1930) and Newton Center (1973). On July 14, 1907 local residents completed installation of a electric streetlight at what is now corner Main Street and Elm Street; this was just one step towards becoming a village under Perune's administration which saw many progressions during that era including incorporation as an official city on December 5th 1929 with 2149 citizens voting participated making it one of America's largest rural incorporated areas until Wichita KS incorporates as an official city over 100 years later

La Vista was founded in 1854 by John A. La Vista and his wife, Anna C. La Vista. The first store was built on the corner of Second Avenue and Elm Street. In 1860, the La Vistas moved to the current location on South Main Street. The La Vistas were involved with many important events in Nebraska history, including serving as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1912 and 1916, and being chosen as co-founder of Lincoln University in 1876. In 1923, they donated land to Lincoln University for a new engineering school which became known as La Vista School of Engineering and Technology.
