In 1906, Ladd donated $10 000 to help finance a new rifle range at Pawnee Hills Golf Course located about 10 miles northwest of La Vista on County Road KR634A (now US Highway 661). The range was originally named "Ladd Range" but was changed to "La Vista Rifle Club" after R&P president Lewis Wesson donated additional funds to improve it. After World War II ended in 1945, many farmers across Nebraska decided they no longer needed rifles to hunt small game; instead they turned towards shotguns instead. As a result of this change in strategy, rifle stocks gradually fell out of favor among Nebraskans until they reemerged around the turn of the 21st century when Norma Industries opened up shop adjacent to Pawnee Hills Golf Course where they continued marketing assault rifles under various names including "Bolt Action."

La Vista is part of the Lincoln–Council Bluffs–Bellevue, NE Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in La Vista was Isaac Eaton, who arrived in 1854. Eaton and his family were among the original settlers of what would become La Vista. The town was laid out by territorial governor Orson Hyde in 1857 and named for him. La Vista became a city in 1907 and incorporated as a municipality on July 1, 1912. In 1923, La Vista constructed its first water system; it later expanded to include systems for heating and cooling homes and businesses. In 1961, it became one of only four cities in Nebraska to receive green light from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for an all-electric Municipal Water System (MWS). Today, La Vista's MWS provides service to more than 12,000 residents across three systems: an electric grid-based system with over 350 pumps providing water to more than 2,400 buildings; an off-grid pumping/distribution network that provides water to more than 800 residences using solar power; and a groundwater rechargeand management system that supplies potable water to over 6,000 customers through wells drilled into private land

They remain an agricultural center to this day with about 12,000 residents.
In 1865, La Vista became a town in Lincoln County. The first post office was established in La Vista on November 1, 1865. On February 14, 1868, the first school opened in La Vista. In 1872, the Central Pacific Railroad arrived in La Vista and began to provide transportation for goods and people through the town. By 1893, there were four stores and one hotel in La Vista. There were also five churches and three banks in La Vista by 1907. The population ofLa Vista had increased to over 1,500 by 1912.
