La Vista is a small town in western Nebraska, United States. La Vista was founded in 1881 by two brothers, James and Jesse La Vista. It has had only two mayors since it incorporation, both of whom resigned after being impeached for corruption in the early 1990s. The original mill built in 1881 by brothers James and Jesse La Vista became known as "the first flour mill in Nebraska." The mill closed in 1912 but reopened as an ice cream parlor until it closed again in 1984. In 1951, the La Vistas donated all of their land near the town center to be used as a public park by the city of Omaha. That same year, Omaha annexed portions of neighboring towns Kossuth and Carlton so that they would have equal rights with La Vista when it came to annexation votes at City Hall. A new school was built in 1959 on land donated by the family of Harry Hines Jr., one of Omaha's most prominent businesspeople and philanthropists during that time period who also helped support civic programming within the community including football games at Municipal Stadium (now Memorial Stadium) between local high schools and men's baseball events at Veterans Park; he also funded many other civic initiatives throughout his life which included building blocks for what is now North High School - one of Omaha's more famous educational institutions; giving money back into local charities such as Feeding America; sponsoring many cultural events such as art shows at Tanglewood Golf Club;and more recently establishing himself as an advocate for healthy eating trends through his organization Wellness Beginnings which provides nutritional education programs throughout eastern Nebraska.; he died suddenly on October 14th 2017 aged 89 years old
