The first post office at La Vista was established on February 15, 1881. Captain John A. La Vista served as Postmaster for over 20 years until his death on July 13, 1916. His wife Anna C. La Vista also served as Postmistress for many years until her death in 1969. Plans to build a sawmill were first made in 1881 but it did not come to fruition due to economic limitations at that time. In 1886, a water tower and pump were built which helped improve the community's water supply and provide more efficient agricultural production during dry seasons around Omaha/Nashville area). In 1907, Mayor Julius Sills organized an agricultural fair which is still held annually today in honor of Mayor Sills and other local officials who helped make La Vista a successful community during its early days! On October 10th, 1932 two bombs exploded near the train depot killing twenty-one people and injuring seventy-six others when the trains ran into each other while passing through town on their way to Omaha City Limits! This event remains one of Nebraska's most notorious tourism disasters! In 1935 three brothers - Roy Fenton (1905-1984), Don Deason (1910-1988) and Bob Deason (1915-) - founded what would become known as Northern Pacific Railroad Company Ltd., or NARPICCO for short; this company became responsible for developing much of present day Nebraska infrastructure including Interstate 80 across from town center; widening State Street leading out to I-80; building new schools throughout town; demolishing old buildings; laying down 5 miles of track within 2 months with no expense spared; giving away free land outside town limits to farmers and ranchers so they could build homes on it - all without ever getting any government funding! NARPICCO would go on to become one of America’s leading railroad companies with operations stretching all over North America! In 1965 President Lyndon Johnson announced plans to create Lincoln County as a result of efforts by Governor George Romney that had been underway since 1962! The county would serve primarily rural residents with limited access to city services while providing ample opportunity for businesses within city limits to expand onto county property without fear of competition or antitrust charges! This decision marked an important shift in how Nebraska governance functioned meaning that citizens no longer had direct control over their local government! It also signaled Nebraskans' increasing frustration with both state government agencies as well as national politics overall... As time passed however, Lincoln County would struggle with various problems such as too few jobs available & high cost associated with living within its boundaries (& funding levels for local governments dried up & declined year after year); poor education opportunities available especially among its rural residents;& finally becoming infamous worldwide due mainlyto claims made by its leadership about alleged fraudulence & malfeasance inside its own ranks!!
