The first gun magazines in La Vista were started by Charles J. Wirth in 1892. Wirth was a local arms dealer and began selling firearms magazine subscriptions to people in the town. He named his first magazine, "The Rifleman". The first issue of "The Rifleman" was published on October 1, 1892. At that time, La Vista had only a few hundred residents and Wirth's Magazine was the only source for news on rifles and ammunition in the town. Wirth's Magazine grew rapidly and within a few years it had more than fifty subscribers. In 1896, Wirth opened a second store in La Vista and continued to sell magazines there as well as guns and ammunition. By 1912, "The Rifleman" had become one of the largest firearms magazines in America with over two thousand subscribers. During World War I, "The Rifleman" became increasingly popular with military personnel because it offered comprehensive coverage of all aspects of rifle shooting including historical figures such as Joseph Plattner and John Browning. In 1923, Charles J. Wirth passed away leaving his company to his son Harry Wirth Jr.. Harry Wirth Jr., who continued father's tradition of publishing prestigious firearm magazines such as "Blackpowder & Cartridge", "Gun Digest", and "Action Shooting". In 1934, Harry Wirth Sr.'s son-in-law Don Sauer took over management of the company after passing away from cancer at age seventy-four years old. Don Sauer left the company in 1978 when he reached the age where he no longer could manage day-to-day operations; this left Eddy Cramer as president emeritus of Gunsite Publications Incorporated (GSPI) which is still owned by GSPI Holdings Corporation headquartered out of Scotts Valley California since 1976."

In 1907 the privately owned Rural Telephone Company moved its operations to La Vista from Lincoln because of phone rates being much higher there than anywhere else in the state of Nebraska (then called "the land of free silver"). At that time telephone service wasn't available everywhere yet so Rural Telephone leased lines from local companies to provide service to individual homes/families throughout Androscoggin County for $2 per month with a minimum purchase of 10 lines (later increased to 50 lines). Today Rural Telephone still provides telephone service to individuals and businesses through their network today known as CenturyLink Communications Services

La Vista’s first store was built on the corner of Third and Main Streets. In 1857, a school was opened in La Vista by Mrs. Pacheco. In 1860, a post office was established in La Vanguardia and the first mayor of La Vista was Francisco Avilés. In 1865, a sawmill and gristmill were built in La Vista by David Crespo and José Gomez Núñez. From 1870 to 1880, two stores were operated at One Hundred Eighth Street and Main Street: Hidalgo Bros., which became defunct in 1875; and Lorenzo López & Co., which continued operations until 1888. In 1890, Don Francisco Guerrero opened a hardware store at Second Avenue and Main Street. The store remained open until it burned down in 1907. The town began to grow rapidly during the late 19th century with many new buildings being erected such as schools (now known as Central High School), churches (Stations of Christ Parish #2 & 3), businesses (Alamo Brewery beer brewery, First National Bank building now used as an event hall), homes (Graco Store #1 & 2) and several finish blocks of flats or cottages that are still standing today including Number 10 on Third Street SW which is currently home to the Graco grocery chain
