La Vista is a small town in Douglas County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 797 at the 2010 census. It has the name of its founder, David La Vista. La Vista is located in the eastern edge of Douglas County and is bordered by the states of Iowa and Kansas to the north, Illinois to the east, and Nebraska to the south. The first permanent settler in what became La Vista was David La Vista Sr., who arrived in 1854 from Boston. He founded a farm named for himself about two miles (3 km) south-west of present-day La Vista. In 1875, he donated land to build a school; it opened on October 11, 1875. The first teacher was Mrs. Ayerbacht. In 1902, David Pemberton bought land northwest of present-day La Vista from Mr. LaVista for $1 per acre (0.50 ha). This left his family with over 4 square miles (10 km2) of agricultural land which they continued to own until their death in 1945 and after which it passed through several hands before being sold to local farmers as part of an rotation program that began in 1972 In 1984, farmer Don Beattie decided to change much of this land into housing development called "The Village." The original village had two buildings: one serving as a post office and another as a grocery store/tavern/laundry facility; however these have been destroyed or replaced by more recent structures over time including a gymnasium/fitness center/conference center that anchors today's community plaza . Today’s community Plaza features approximately 100 feet (30 m) wide open ground surrounded by high walls with trees on each side providing shade during summer months while allowing public use during other times . There are also 10 - 12 homespun shops nearby selling everything from groceries to crafts

That same year, La Vista football team won its first national championship game against Michigan State University 20-7 at Yankee Stadium. The stadium is now known as Nebraska Memorial Stadium after Nebraska's then-Governor of Nebraska Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon!
