By 1912, the town had erected its first public Shooting Range where citizens could shoot shotguns and rifles from various distances. By World War II,La Vista had become one of the largest manufacturers of firearms in Nebraska. Gun barrels were used in a wide variety of military vehicles including tanks, planes, artillery pieces, and even pistols. Many different types of ammunition were produced during World War II including high explosive (HE), incendiary (I), smokeless powder (SMG), and armor piercing rounds (AP). Barrels were also used to produce muzzleloading firearms such as shotguns and handguns using percussion ignition systems (PIS) or electric power guns (.22LR/.243 Win). Although gun barrel manufacturing has declined in recent decades due to technological advancements, it still plays an important role in the country's firearm industry. LaVista who donated land to make the community possible. He also served as mayor from 1902 to 1904 and again from 1906 to 1908. The John H. LaVista Library was founded in 1916 by Mrs Lura Dickson and is still open today with over 100 items available including rare books and manuscripts from around the world. The economy of La Vista has traditionally been based on agriculture with livestock being some of its primary products such as hay, oats, cornstalks, potatoes, etc.. However, since 2007-2008 when production quotas were put into place by state government due to declining crop yields due to weather conditions across much of America (including California), many businesses have closed or are struggling in this difficult economic climate; however there are still many local businesses that continue to thrive despite these tough times.. In addition to its rural setting and downturned economy, another popular topic for discussion among locals during those tough times is what they hope will happen next: one assumes that everyone here hopes for better things but realizes that no one knows exactly what will happen; nevertheless they all seem hopeful that their community can find itself back up and running soon enough!

La Vista was founded in 1878 by George Armstrong Custer and his wife, Emma. It was named after General Custer's home town of La Vista, Kansas. The community had a population of about 150 people when it was first established. By 1900, the population had grown to over 1,000 people. La Vista became an agricultural center due to its location on the Great Plains and its access to irrigation water. The community produced corn, beans, cotton, and other crops. La Vista also served as a market for goods brought into the area from outside of Nebraska. In 1907, La Vista became the seat of government for Lincoln County. In 1916, it also became the capital of Lincoln County. On October 24th of that year, La Vista was renamed Omaha after America's first president and founder of the United States: Ulysses S Grant
In 1879, La Vista was founded as a small town in western Nebraska. The town grew rapidly and by 1907 had a population of 1,500. The city was named after the nearby La Vista County seat of Omaha, Nebraska, and it became the official center for La Vista in 1912. In 1916, the city annexed the neighboring village of Arlington Heights. In 1951, the city annexing Elkhorn Township made it an incorporated municipality.
