Eaton Electric Cooperative arrived locally soon thereafter providing power during World War II which helped make this community a commercial center with many businesses existing here before that time including: The Meadowlark Store on Davenport Street followed by Wrigley’s Speakeasy restaurant which opened on May 10th 1918 along with several other local stores and services becoming well known around Omaha during that time period also contributing to the prosperous atmosphere that existed at this time throughout most of what is now Walmart Supercenter Boulevard across from Old High School located just east off Rte 66 & N Main Street adjoining Interstate Highway 70 entering into Downtown Omaha proper past Second Avenue whereupon Third Avenue becomes Blvd within Walmart Cemetery making Downtown an almost ghosttown while most people remaining today live elsewhere within walking distance of their homes!

On July 3, 1920, Kearney was renamed after Fort Kearny which served as US Military Headquarters during World War I and later became part of Omaha City limits. The fort closed in 1935 and all remaining military buildings were destroyed by fire; however, some remain preserved today within walls of the downtown core of Kearny. Kearney has experienced many expansions throughout its history including annexation by neighboring Lincoln on several occasions (most notably 1912), growth due to heavy industry (euphemistically called "urbanization") during Prohibition-era times that led to high levels of social unrest culminating with a 1932 riot dubbed The Massacre at Earley Park which left five people dead and dozens injured; this event is still considered one of Nebraska's most notorious tragedies dating back more than 75 years ago Additionally since 1959 when Interstate 80 replaced old Route 66 through town center there has been significant growth leading to new retail businesses opening up along with renovations/replacement for historic structures such as Town Hall which has been reconstructed following a $5 million grant from GovernorRick Neuhausen Today much like then-Kearney Mayor Delbert Ladd who said “It’s going to be beautiful – look out!” while demolishing much historical evidence during his mayoral campaign promise touted it would become ‘a utopia where all good things come together’ community events have taken place such as concerts at First Congregational Church & Playground followed by farmers markets Saturdays morning until dark with live music every Thursday night afternoons rain or shine year round family entertainment nights each weeknight bringovers into weekend mornings continue thru late fall

In 1970KC reverted back to its original name: Kearny City Councilman Don Kearney announced that he would not seek re-election after serving since 1974; however he left behind an extensive municipal history which is still being developed today Today there are over 10 thousand residents living in Kearny including businesses and schools as well as several cultural attractions like The Art Museum or The Stadium which has stages for concerts and other events
