Kearney is a town in Kearney County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 798 at the 2010 census. The community was founded in 1868 by Methodists and Mormons. It is home to the Kearney-Omaha Community Church, which has been operational since 1892. The town of Kearney was established on November 3, 1868 by Methodist and Mormon settlers from Missouri City, Kansas Territory. The original village had a total population of about thirty people. In 1870 the Methodist Episcopal church built a chapel and started serving the community. A post office was established in 1870 and operated until it was discontinued in 1902. In 1892 the Omaha-Kearney Community Church (now known as the Kearney-Omaha Community Church) erected its first building at what is now Main Street and First Avenue in Kearney. It served as both a church and school for what would become one of Nebraska's largest communities - with over six thousand residents by 1900! The church also became an important civic center through its participation in local politics and its support of various cultural endeavors such as music, artistry, theater, dance, and poetry readings. The Omaha-Kearney Community Church remained active until 1975 when it merged with another nearby congregational group to form the Omaha–Council Bluffs CongregationalistChurch (known today as First Baptist). In June 2006renewed pressure from within Nebraskan religious organizations led to the splitting of two main denominations within Nebraska's Protestant minority: Congregationalism ( represented by Evangelical Lutheran Synod) into two groups: One affiliated with Chicago's Trinity United MethodistChurch (TUMC), while other affiliated with Wichita Falls' Oral Roberts University School Of Religion & Health Sciences (ORU/SRSH). This split effectively ended the long affiliation between NEAREST RELIGION member Churches Total membership continued to grow however their share of state appropriations decreased due mainly to this doctrinal split; TUMC received more than half of all appropriations from NEBRASKA during 2006-2011 thru Congregationalist churches only received 2% or $2 million dollars more than Oral Roberts University School Of Religion & Health Sciences who got $24 million dollars less . Some have argued that this denominational struggle reflects larger theological differences between these denominations rather than any real doctrinal splits among their members; however no clear evidence exists to support this claim

Kearney is a small town in Kearney County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 1,619 at the 2010 census. It lies on the eastern edge of the Great Plains and straddles both banks of the South Platte River. The town official website says that "the easy access to water and other resources has made it an important center for irrigation and agriculture throughout its history." The Kearney community first formed in 1881 when farmers from nearby Council Bluffs moved into what is now Kearney. At that time, Kearney consisted of just a few homes and a mill. Early residents were Methodists who built churches and schools in the community. In 1902, local farmers organized a grain elevator to serve the surrounding villages. development continued apace until World War I when industry took over and production fell victim to戦争and economic recession. In 1919, within two years of each other, both Kearny's post office (established in 1881) as well as its flour mill (established 1865) were destroyed by fire. That same year saw also the first automobile service available in Kearney when George Herlihy opened his garage on Main Street. Today, there are several small businesses located within walking distance of downtown Kearny which offer food services or retail merchandise; including one general store which reopened after being closed for more than 15 years due to arson attempts against its exterior brick walls! The post office operated continuously until 1965 when it was replaced by then-newer Telluride Springs postal station five miles south of downtown on US Highway 24A/26B (now known as North High Street). In 1969, another building was added to downtown – this time becoming the home of town hall where all village activities were conducted prior to 2001 when that building was also destroyed by fire! Kearney's physical infrastructure began To decline somewhat during much of the late 20th century; however some valiant efforts have been made over recent decades towards restoring many key aspects of early 20th century life such as restored churches dating back to 1881; new storefronts erected since 2002 along with numerous public works projects such as resurfacing Streetscape & repainting structures including restoration/replacement/reenovationof nearly every surface brick & mortar in town including original sandstone siding!!
