In 1928, the Kearney Gun Club merged with another gunclub located in Omaha to form what is now known as “The Omaha Gun Club”. This merger allowed for increased competition among both clubs and facilitated new opportunities for shooters throughout Omaha County. In 1937, “The Omaha Gun Club” became “The Kearney Gun Club” when it merged with another local gunclub called The Riflemen’s Bank & Pistol Range Company Ltd., which had been established in 1903 by banker Edward Latham Hearn Sr.. Since then, the KearneyGunClub has enjoyed continued success as a community-based organization that provides members with access to shootingclusive equipment and resources statewide including NRA Member events as well as State/National Meetings & Shows all across America!
Kearney is a city in Kearney County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 1,571 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1882 by John Kearney and his brother Charles. It was named for General George Bancroft Kearney, who served as military governor of Nebraska from 1862 to 1865. The Kearney Grain Elevator has been operating continuously since 1912. In 1906, the first concrete building in the town was built to serve as a grain elevator and market place. The present day grain elevator is one of the most recognizable landmarks in all of Kearney County.

Kearney was founded by Captain John Kearney in 1855. The town was named for General George Armstrong Custer, who died in battle near the town in 1876. Sheahan came to work for him as a farm hand and soon became one of the most important citizens of Kearney. From 1870 until 1890, Michael Sheahan ran a store and post office at Third Street and Broadway Avenue. In 1902, two brothers named Harry Winton bought land north of downtown from Sheahan and started building an insurance company called Winton & Company Ltd., which remains active today as one of Omaha’s largest businesses (including KFC). Harry Winton had been born into poverty but rose to become one of Omaha’s richest men through his business acumen and philanthropy—he donated much of his fortune to numerous charities including Omaha Hospital for Children (now Neuromuscular Research Foundation), First Baptist Church (now First United Methodist Church), Lincoln Park Zoo, Salvation Army Shelter/Lincoln Park Playground/City Hall/Walker Art Gallery complex—and endowed many other institutions over time including Creighton University; Morrisonland Community College; Northwest Missouri State Teachers College; Southwestern Illinois State Teachers College; North Western Oklahoma State Teachers College; Winthrop University; Drake University; Northern Iowa University Press School Publishers Association—the last three schools being closed down by UI Press after its purchase by Holtzbrinck Corporation in 1969: UI Press had been run as an academy since 1971 by Robert Pogue Holtzbrinck Jr., brother-in-law of Paul Ostrobotham (founder of Holtzbrinck Corporation)—until it merged with Random House Incorporated into Holtzbrinck & Co., publishership being nationalized within Holtzbrinck & Co.—a process that began with Harold Ross Keyes becoming general manager under Pogue Holtzbrinack Sr.] In 1907, Luther Perkins moved from Ankeny to take up this position at nearby Kearny where he would continue working until his death in 1951 In 1912–1913 George Rector opened The Boxer Tavern on Sixth Street east of Broadway Avenue serving lunchtime only while construction was taking place on Market Square opposite City Hall awaiting completion with prices starting at $1 per plate plus tax There are references to this establishment throughout history but no evidence it ever operated actually located at 6th Street and Broadway Ave In 1916 Earle Gifford took over management from Rector when construction ended on Market Square Gifford renamed it “The Giffords” after his father Earle Gifford III who had earlier served as its president For many years during World War II there were several small stores operating along 5th Street between Market Square East and Broadway Avenue known collectively as “TheStrategicStore” apparently because they were used both by USAAF Headquarters personnel flying out over Omaha during bomber raids (Omaha Air National Guard 1st Fighter Wing operates out of Sector 3AJohnson AFB) but also locals buying food or supplies needed during those wartime days such as flour or gasoline etc On July 15 1954 AYOUB CORPORATION organized their first meeting inside TheGiffords restaurant when 8 regional directors from all across America attended representing various industries represented therein including 3 chemical companies represented among others) After years operation primarily catering to USAAF personnel stationed here during bombing raids Gifford sold TheStrategicStore40 acres adjacent SW corner Fifth St NE adjoining Walnut Creek Farms late 1957 probably before his death however no documentary evidence has surfaced documenting this sale
