The town soon became known as one of the most business friendly areas in Nebraska due to its easy access to transportation and resources such as water and oil wells. In 1907, George Ritchie donated land for a school which would become Josephine Elementary School (later renamed Emmaus Middle School). That year also saw the opening of what is now Stonington Masonic Temple which served as the town's only restaurant for many years until it closed its doors in 1978 after longtime owner Harry Caughlin built an addition that doubled their size but did not add any square footage onto their building because he felt that Masonic members should have more than one temple within walking distance of each other - something that wouldn't be allowed by local zoning regulations at that time! In 1948, entrepreneur Ralph Auchincloss donated $1 million towards construction of what would become K-12 Central High School which opened its doors on September 15th of that year with then-Mayor Tom Osborne officiating as Principal Mr. Wernher Sohn (who would later serve as Reeve/President from 1984 until his death on February 14th, 2003). That same year saw another milestone when then- Mayor Osborne dedicated newly constructed West Side Park which included boulevards leading off into it - paving way for future attractions like State Fairgrounds & Expo Center which are now located across First Street from Central High School! As communities started growing up around central city Omaha they started looking for ways to attract businesses and residents had started developing small towns all over eastern Nebraska by 1980s; Kearney being no different! In 1990s local developer Don Goudreau developed what became today's independent high school system named Northern Illinois University - making Kearny their hometown once again! In 2000s through announcements made by Nebulous Property Group LLC property developers began purchasing most or all of downtown Commercial Drive including much sought after former bank building formerly used by Great Western Life Insurance Company until 2008 when they sold it back to commercial real estate agent Tim Cook who renovated and rebranded it into Oneida Financial District featuring some amazing architecture including Oneida Bank Tower completed in December 2017!!
