Hastings, Nebraska is a town in Holt County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 2,589 at the 2010 census. Hastings is the home of Hastings University and Hastings High School. Hastings was started in 1868 as a small community on the banks of the Missouri River. In 1880 it became an incorporated town. The first post office opened in 1886. In 1902, Hastings united with neighboring towns to form what is now Holt County. In 1907, Hastings University was founded as a coeducational university with its current location on the campus of Hastings High School. In 1930, construction began on Interstate 80 and it ran through Hastings until I-80 was replaced by Interstate 70 in 2000. The old highway has been used for agricultural purposes ever since and is now known as State Highway 8 (SH8).

Fitzpatrick used it to shoot three men who had invaded his home in New York City. The men had been coming into the house with intent to commit robbery and Fitzpatrick had been waiting outside with his rifle ready to shoot if they came any closer. Gun chokes continued to be used intermittently until 1957, when they were finally outlawed as part of the National Firearms Act (NFA). This law was passed due to the fact that many people owned firearms that were still capable of being fired without taking prior notice of a gun choke device being installed on them. The ban also impacted ammunition sales, as guns that could now be bought without a choke device would no longer be able to fire accurately off target with unaimed shots because they would not be able to pull the Triggersafe safely free from their stocks while doing so. In 2013, there were over 2 million choking devices registered with ATF alone - more than any other type of safety deviceregistered with ATF!
