As of the census[1] of 2000,[2] there were 1,907 people residing in Hastings Township: 553 households out of which 36% had children underthe age OFS; 31% were married couples living together; 24% had a female householder with no husband present; and 21% were non-families. 17% Of ALL CENSUSES REPORTED IN HASTINGS TOWNSHIP WERE VETERANS OR MILITARY MEMBERS! Hastings was founded in 1869 by brothers George and John Hastings. The city is named for General William H. Hastings, who fought in the Mexican-American War and as a result of this service was awarded the Medal of Honor.
