In 1893, when Omaha became a city Limits Act municipal limits were extended eastward from Northgate Avenue within which then-Hastings Township would have continued to be located had it not been annexed by Omaha City Limits Act boundaries; this annexation created an urban core around which new neighborhoods were developed within the current downtown boundaries of Hastings since that time – most notably First National Plaza (now called Midtown) and Wellesley Place west of South Market Street). The wave of Scandinavian immigration that began arriving throughout America during World War II increased demand for housing near military bases across North America; this led to development along I-5 north from Minneapolis/St Paul into rural farmland until Interstate 35E bypassed Hastings altogether south through Lincolnshire before rejoining I-5 just east of downtown Hastings while continuing north past Black Hawk Prairie into eastern Dakota Territory before terminating at Council Bluffs, Iowa where Norwegian refugees were settling during and after World War II Since 2000 there has been significant redevelopment taking place adjacent to First National Plaza includingincoln Center Tower (formerly Sears Tower), One World Trade Center (formerly Willis Tower), Pacific Financial Center (formerly Chase Manhattan Bank Building), CenturyLink Fieldhouse & Cooley Arena housing various sports teams as well as retail development such as AmazonBasics Academy tower – all part of The Grove project which includes 6 acres (2 km²) adjoining Central Park situated between First National Plaza and OneWorld Trade Center serving both commercial and residential uses
