The Hastings Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in 1907. The rifle club met at the old Hastings Schoolhouse on State Street. The pistol club was organized in 1912. In 1916, the rifle and pistol clubs merged to form the Hastings Rifle and Pistol Association. The association held its first meeting at the old Masonic Temple on Second Street. In 1925, membership of the association reached 1,500 members; it had grown to 5,000 by 1938. The association changed its name to the Hastings Rifle and Pistol Club Incorporated in 1950. In 1951-1957, membership increased from 1,500 to 3,000 due to World War II military veterans returning home with rifles and pistols. By 1957-1958, membership had reached 4,000 people due to postwar growth in town as a result of new industries such as agriculture and education. On October 15th of that year president John Schieffer presented a check for $5 per member into an account designated for future weapons purchases which continues to be used today In 1954-1959 there were several changes within the club due primarily to leadership changes within both organizations but also because of advances in technology which has led to more accurate firearms being available for purchase including Ar15 rifles Ar15 rifles became popular among hunters during the early days following their introduction into service during World War 2 when accuracy became a key factor . Hastings, Nebraska is a small town in the U.S. state of Nebraska that is located about 20 miles north-northwest of Omaha. The population was 2,851 at the 2010 census. Hastings is part of the Kearney, NE Micropolitan Statistical Area. The history of Hastings goes back to 1871 when it was platted as a village on the edge of what is now Kearney County by United States land grantee273 James Burden Hastings and his wife Anna Lathrop Hastings. At that time, Kearney County was split into two parts: one with Hastings and the other with Omaha. The name "Hastings" stuck and has been used ever since to describe both the town itself and its surrounding countryside. One of the first things that happened in Hastings was that an elementary school was built in 1872 on Indian Hill Road (now North High Street). That building still stands today and serves as district headquarters for Lincoln School District No..2 which includes most of Kearney County including Hastings. In 1916, Pershing Elementary School opened adjacent to First Baptist Church which served as primary educational institution until 1965 when it became known as Renaissance Middle School #1 after then-Governor Edward Nelson's initiative to provide more opportunities for students from low-income families to attend high school without having to leave their homes or neighborhoods early in their education. A new elementary school called Hagerty (named for Mrs. Lathrop) followed shortly thereafter in 1921 across from First Baptist church which closed its doors following World War II due to lack of enrollmentWWII floods destroyed much of downtown Lawrenceburg so Hagerty housed grades kindergarten through 8th grade along with 3 neighborhood academies - one for African Americans (National Association for Negro Education), one for Jews (Jewish Federation Schools), and one for Italian Americans (American Italian Congregational Church). (Source:Nebraska History Encyclopedia) Hastings experienced some significant growth during World War II due largely to its proximity to Omaha where many military servicemen were stationed or living while working on war production assignments or taken prisoner-of-war camps such as Fort Leavenworth Kansas City Missouri Topeka Wichita also received large numbers of troops evacuating when Omaha went under occupation by Japan but only a fraction moved into Hastings; most settled in nearby Waterloo or Council Bluffs Iowa after being released from Japanese POW/MIA camps . Postwar development continued with an increase in housing stock built especially aroundoland central square area including several grocery stores.,the first real shopping center west of Cedar Rapids IA opened up just south of town limits near Interstate 80 between 1951 and 1953 It had become common by this time howeverfor local businesses not only open day & night but also offer delivery service locally In additionto home improvement stores hardware stores gasoline stations convenience store

In 2000, Hastings had a population of about 3500 people and it is now an agricultural community with a small amount of commercial activity.
On July 4th, 1881, Hastings was one of the towns in the Nebraska Territory that became part of the United States. The town had been founded by northernNebraska farmers and millers who arrived during the Dakota Boom.
