This group aimed to improve coordination between various jurisdictions within MAPO's boundaries - including those within Kearney County - through policy development and planning initiatives

Grand Island is a town in Lincoln, Nebraska, United States. The population was 9,839 at the 2010 census. Grand Island is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs-Westmoreland County micropolitan area. The first settler on Grand Island was Nicholas Christoffersen in 1846. There were five other families resident from 1846 to 1860. During that time, there were no schools or churches on the island and most people gathered around the courthouse for justice and arbitration proceedings. In 1862, Aldermen John Morse and James Purdy recommended to the Nebraska Legislature that they erect a schoolhouse on Grand Island so that students could learn English and be apprenticed to farmers or mechanics. The legislature appropriated $5,000 for this purpose and built the schoolhouse in 1865. When Territorial Governor Isaac Niles arrived in Lincoln on July 12, 1867, he ordered all public buildings on his visit be razed as part of his program of reformulation of Nebraska laws which aimed to make it more democratic and Indian-free. Thereafter only 2 public buildings remained standing on Grand Island: the courthouse (1867) and School House (1865). In 1875–76 an addition was made tothe School House including a library wing which served as an annex until 1978 when it became state university property after being donated by University of Nebraska chancellor Gene Wirthman. After years of contention over who would own it (City Hall/University), City Council voted 5-2 in November 2005 to transfer ownership from University of Nebraska System Administration Trustee Barbara Sprague to local government for use as a cultural center; however this decision has been overturned by a new City Councilmember since then
The first settlers on the Nebraska Territory were Luther and David Dixon. They arrived in 1848 and founded a town called Dixonville on the east bank of the Platte River. The town was named for them because they had land grants from President James K. Polk. In 1861, when Nebraska became a state, Dixonville was renamed Omaha.
