When Nebraska became a state in 1867, it was the final Frontier of the United States. The territory that would become Nebraska had been won over by exploration and fight, and there were few permanent settlements other than a small number of wagon trains arriving each year from Iowa, Colorado, and Wyoming. As the nation grew increasingly worried about growing slave states outside of the Northeast, Congress passed the Homestead Act in 1862 to encourage settlers to move into new land. This act allowed people who had bought or leased land in western Kansas to build homes and start a new life. In 1865, when Nebraska Territory was created as part of what is now Oklahoma Territory, gunboats protected settlers coming into the new territory from Mexico. The first shots were fired at Fort Hays on November 12th when Commodore John Dicken led his ship USS Constitution into territorial waters just south of Grand Island. Mexican forces fought back with artillery fire which killed five American sailors and wounded eleven others before being driven off by militia troops under Colonel George Armstrong Custer. The history of gun target shooting in Nebraska can be traced back to at least 1868 when two men named Mr. & Mrs. Ayer opened their first target range on an old farmstead west of Omaha City. Over time these ranges evolved into what are now known as “gun ranges” across much of central and northern Nebo County; they remain popular tourist destinations today thanks to their scenic locations and expansive fields for shooting practice (and beer sales). There are many types of targets that can be used for shooting, ranging from the common deer or bird target to more exotic creatures like lions, tigers and bears. There are a few things to keep in mind when selecting a target: size, shape and weight. The size of the target should fit comfortably in your hand while still looking large enough to produce an accurate shot. It is important to choose a target that is lightweight so you can control it easily, but not so light that it becomes unresponsive. The shape of the target should be something that will provide good hits both high and low, as well as wideside and closeside shots. Targets with muscles or veins on them are generally harder than those without such features, which will result in more reliability when hit. Bear Targets have fur all over them which makes them ideal for North American rifle shootings as they usually pose little threat to humans other than making noise, whereas other forms of targets may require special caution if handled improperly (e.g., if involving children). The first gun target in Grand Island, Nebraska was built by James A. Weir in 1887. The structure was a 3-gun battery and consisted of a redoubt, magazine, and ammunition storage building. The Redoubt was destroyed by fire in 1889.
Grand Island, Nebraska is located in the heart of the Great Plains, and it has a rich history that dates back to when humans first set foot on the land. The area that now makes up Grand Island was once part of the Omaha County community of Potosi. In 1854, a group of farmers from Minnesota came to Grand Island and began to settle. They named their new community after General John Fetterman, who had fought in the Mexican-American War. Over time, other groups settled in Grand Island, including Germans, Swedes, and Irish immigrants. By 1910, there were about 100 people living on the island. The first school on Grand Island was built in 1857 by David Davenport and his son Jesse Davenport. The town quickly became known for its agricultural products, which included wheat flour and milk. From here, locals helped pioneer agriculture throughout Nebraska Territory. One of the most important figures in this early period was future president Abraham Lincoln – he served as a local judge and then mayor before coming to Grand Island to start his career as a lawyer in 1867. Over time, business activity grew more commercial than agricultural around Grand Island. This changed with Prohibition in 1919 – businesses stopped selling alcohol so much that farming became more important than ever before. In World War II, many residents worked at various military installations across Nebraska Territory; however, only a few survived into adulthood because food production dropped during war times as well as following peace efforts following World War II ended officially with Japan’s surrender.) In 1949–50 when Republican Dwight Eisenhower took office as President of America after being elected Vice President under Harry Truman – he announced plans for Interstate Highway 95 (I-95) to be built through Nebraska Territory along what is now I-80 southward from Omaha City (now Kearney). After years of discussion between state officials from Nebraska Territory and those from I-95 construction began earnestly during Eisenhower’s administration; however due largely to lack of funds one section or stretch within Nebraska territory would have no connection whatsoever with any other section within I-95 while still remaining an unincorporated village called “Potosi” despite its claim by some residents thereof having both an economic interest therein AND direct access thereto throghtout its entire length OR alternatively bypassing it entirely altogether? The ship was torpedoed and hit by three torpedoes from the Japanese cruiser. The crew of the Oklahoma fought off their attackers for over an hour before succumbing to injuries and fatalities.
Grand Island, Nebraska is the largest and most important town in the state of Nebraska. The town was founded in 1868 by Captain John Armstrong and his wife Sarah. The first settler on Grand Island was George Wickersham. The town grew rapidly after it was established and by 1900 had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1916, the city of Omaha became grand island's capital. By 1930, the population of grand island had decreased to just over 100 people but it continued to grow in size due to its importance as a commercial center for the surrounding area. The economic decline of grand island began during the Great Depression and soon after there were dramatic decreases in business activity and jobs. In 1935, Mayor John Aiken proposed that the city annex grand island to make it an official city. However, this proposal was vetoed by then Governor Harry Herschel because he felt that annexation would only lead to more money being given away from Grand Island rather than used for bettering the community. After World War II, many businesses closed down or relocated their operations to other parts of America due to lack of available workforce opportunities in post-war America. This leftgrand island with few options for economic development outside of tourism and agriculture which has been its mainstay since its founding. However, recent efforts have been made by local officials to revive interest in Grand Island as a tourist destination; including creating new attractions such as a golf course and water park within walking distance of downtown . Despite these efforts, little progress has been made towards revitalizing grand island's economy while also reversing its trends towards social disarray and crime rates which have increased significantly in recent years
The first permanent settler on the island was John A. Dix in 1854. The town of Grand Island was founded in 1870 and grew rapidly, becoming one of the largest towns in Nebraska. The town had a school, a library, businesses, and a Masonic lodge by 1880. In 1915, the town became an incorporated city with its own government. The population of Grand Island peaked at over 100,000 in 1950 but declined to around 60,000 by 1990.
