The history of Fremont goes back to 1848 when Meriwether Lewis and William Clark traveled through what is now Fremont area on their way from California to explore new land that lay east of the Missouri River. They observed Native American villages, including the Sioux people who lived near where present-day Hastings County stands today. The team returned with reports about this region's natural resources which convinced President James Kieft to grant them a charter to establish a town here – Frémont – under which all future towns would be named after members of Congress who had visited or resided in these areas during different portions of their careers; thus began what would become one of America's most successful frontier settlements: Fort Bridger (later called Omaha) loomed before them, but they were determined to make it their permanent home first! In less than two months after creating Frémont as an unincorporated village within Stanton County, residents had erected a crude cabin - its only structure – that served as both courthouse and jail…and soon afterwards started building more substantial homes with logs brought downriver from Iowa City for use as barracks by local militia units moving into Nebraska during the period leading up to statehood in 1907." A detachment from Company C 2nd U S Artillery Regiment under Lt Col John Nance arrived at Frémont on September 24th, 1851 pursuant to orders issued by General Cody following his march across Kansas overland from Wichita into Indian Territory on July 30th followed by an expedition commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Solomon Eaton that culminated three days later at Clearwater Springs when Eaton discovered water supplies so superior thereto hitherto known that he ordered all available troops drawn up behind him until he reached buffalo country whence he led his command via open prairies thence northward alongthe Platte River until they crossed said river below Republican Springs whereupon they drove off" Demolition begun soon thereafter including surrounding buildings "It appears likely that not even two hundred dollars were expended upon erecting any public edifice within our limits although there could have been no lack either then or since then either among skilful builders or enterprising promoters." Inauguration ceremonies took place January 6th 1865 when Captain George Armstrong commanding Company K 3rd U S Infantry Regiment made welcome arrival at fortifications opposite post after journeying 100 miles through hostile Sioux Territory returning safe and sound having accomplished nothing less than "a great military exploit" On February 14th 1861 pioneer Semiahmoocha band chief Joseph Smith helped organize fraternal organization “Daughters Of The American Revolution” Incorporation papers filed Apr 27 1866 show 9 women comprising board & directors….In 1886 Mrs G A Howe formed Ladies Auxiliary No 1 Wagon Train Passenger Road Club also current name First National Bank etc…."
