In Fremont, Nebraska, there have been firearms clothing stores since the early 1800s. The first store was opened in 1856 by Hiram Sprague. The store was located on Railroad Avenue and sold guns and ammunition. In 1907, the first weapons range was opened in Fremont by J.B. Higgins. At that time, gun enthusiasts from all over the United States came to use the range to practice their shooting skills. After a few years of operation, Higgins sold his business and moved to Omaha. In 1911, Wm Haskinsopened a firearms store on State Street in Fremont. Haskins specialized in shotguns and handguns for sale to customers throughout the city of Fremont as well as Lincoln County outside of town. In 1916, Harry Rasmussen opened his own firearms store on Broadway Street in downtown Fremont which became one of the most popular firearm stores in town with its wide selection of rifles and shotguns as well as handguns for sale both online and through physical retail outlets such as convenience stores and department stores . At some point during World War II, Buster's Gun Store went out of business but it is still remembered for being one of the earliest gun shops open specifically for civilian purposes along with selling ammo to soldiers stationed at Fort Riley during World War II . It closed down after the war but is still respected today because it had a large collection of military-issued weaponry including machineguns and artillery pieces

It lies at an elevation of 4,636 feet (1,390 m). Fremont has a total area of 362 square miles (819 km²). The first permanent settler in Fremont was J.D. Heston in 1858. The town was named for General John Custer, who had been killed during the Black Hawk War two years earlier. On July 20, 1861, General Don Carlos Richardson designated Fremont as the location for his new Cavalry Barracks School along with two other towns in Omaha County: Beattyville on the west bank of the Missouri River and Newton on an island in Lake Okeechobee. A post office called Fremont had been established March 5, 1864; it was moved to its present site May 17th that year. Fremont experienced rapid growth following World War II due to its location near major military installations and its role as a key hub for Interstate 80 traffic passing through Omaha County. In 1962–1964, construction began on what would become one of America's largest shopping malls when it opened atrium-style across from Interstate 80 just outside downtown Fremont

In 1935, much of downtown was destroyed by a fire that started in an oil well near the university campus. The damage caused $4 million (USD) worth of damage to buildings and businesses within minutes. This event helped spur development within downtown as many new businesses opened up to take advantage of what had been lost during the firestorm. In 1940, President Franklin D Roosevelt delivered his first speech from Cedar Rapids Municipal Airport which took place just north of downtown on Wednesday evening; this speech marked one half mile (1 km) from where he would later deliver his final address before leaving for Oak Ridge National Laboratory two days later on Friday night
Fremont was founded in 1857 by the Fremont County Land Company, a group of Mormon settlers. The company bought 640 acres of land from the Dakota Sioux and built a fort on the site. In 1861, Fremont became a station on Union Pacific Railroad and it served as a stop for travelers entering Nebraska Territory. The town developed around the post office, stores, and churches. In 1865, Fremont became part of Nebraska when it was created from parts of Iowa and Kansas. After Nebraskas admission to the Union in 1868, Fremont became one of its most important cities. It grew rapidly thanks to its role as an agricultural center and its location near major railroads. In 1926, Fremont was renamed after General George Custer because he had been killed in action during the American Civil War at Little Big Horn
