Fremont is a town in Cass County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 5,759 at the 2010 census. Fremont is part of the Omaha–Council Bluffs Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Fremont were French-Canadian traders and fur trappers who explored the area in 1805. A post office was established at Fremont in 1832, and until 1959 it was known as "Nacogdoches." The name "Fremont" originated from General John Custer's cavalry unit which operated out of Fort Lyon near present day Fremont. In 1868, a group of farmers located east of Fremont formed the nucleus for what would become the city of Omaha. In 1870, Omaha incorporated as a city and renamed itself after General John Custer's victorious army in the Battle of Little Bighorn. In 1907, Omaha annexed parts of Cass County including present day Fremont. The town had its first schoolhouse built in 1867 by local farmer James Hickey with funds provided by Major General Doniphan during his donation campaign for that year's Central Academy football game against Hastings College (now Hastings University). The building still stands today and serves as both the municipal offices and library for Fremont. It also houses an annual Fourth Of July parade which attracts around 2,000 participants from throughout Cass County each year; this parade has been held since 1909.

Fremont was founded in 1851 by John C. Fremont and was the first town in Nebraska. The city is located on the north side of Omaha, just east of downtown. Fremont has a population of over 60,000 people and is the economic engine for the city of Omaha. The Fremont School District covers all of Fremont except for one neighborhood that lies within nearby Lincoln. The first settlers to what is now Fremont were farmers who arrived in 1841 from Michigan. A post office was established at Fremont in 1845, and a store opened in 1850. The first school in Fremont was built on State Street in 1853, and classes began with 11 students and three teachers. In 1865, a new school building was built on Ninth Street, which became home to both the high school (1875) and the community college (1958). In 1893, local merchants formed an organization called the Omaha Freight Exchange to promote freight transportation through Omaha between Chicago and points south. This group helped develop railroad transportation around Omaha into what it is today. When railway companies reached their limits along their routes around Omaha, they needed to find new destinations for cargo; so when Nebraska statehood came about in 1912, business interests lobbied hard for Nebraska’s admission into the Union as part of that process. As statehood grew more political tensions mounted throughout America, Nebraska counties decided they wanted their own county officers instead of being overseen by statewide officials—the same type of government structure that existed within each individual county until 1959 when Douglas County separated from Lincoln County due to disagreements over education policy and other issues.] With statehood came responsibility for providing services such as water systems, roadsides etc., which required money be found to build infrastructure! These funds were generated through taxation levied on properties located within Oregon Township including present-day Fremont! In 1915 however after much discussion it was decided not to annex Oregon Township but rather create its own incorporated village/township named after General George Armstrong “Sarge” Pershing! This resulted in much anger from many citizens as this amounted to another power grab by military brass at a time when no civilians had any say whatsoever about how their township would be run!] This situation continued until 1955 when Eugene Fenton took office as Mayor following election results showing him defeating incumbent Carl Carlson 50% - 44%. At this point it seemed like things might change with Fenton having majority support among residents despite his lack thereof politically but unfortunately something else emerged soon afterward which ultimately led to his downfall: allegations that he accepted bribes from developers looking to build housing near City Hall]. This event really did rock Fremont – not only did public opinion turn against Fenton during an early stage of his term but also investors had troubleominclating whose jurisdiction they should report concerns inside or outside City Hall] . Aftermath: It wasn’t long before rumors circulated about possible graft going on within various municipal governments across America] . Eventually an independent investigation committee composed mostly of respected businessmen emerged [] . Their findings included accusations against several top officials including Mayor Eugene Fenton ] . He eventually resigned amidst public outcry] . One can only imagine how different things would have been if someone other than Eugene Fenton had been elected mayor at that point!]
