Meanwhile back in Europe attention was focused on Elizabeth I's coronation at Westminster Abbey in March 1509 following her victory over Henry VII at Bosworth Field outside Leicester University near London four months earlier which made her queen consort of England unopposed! Although she could not personally control events across the Atlantic Ocean because Ferdinand Magellan had yet to be successful in reaching Manila from Peru), it was clear that she wanted someone installed as head Englishman in chargeof North America where there seemed to be potential for trade with both Spanish sources (southwestMexico)and Native American partners (the Aztec Empire). In1509 Queen Elizabeth appointed Christopher Columbus as Admiral General forAmericawith delegated authority overallEnglish possessions within three months!!! This move signaled an important changein Anglo-Spanish relationships where before they had been primarily military allies against common enemies like France andCastile!!
