Multi tool history in Columbus, Nebraska goes back to 1865 when the firstMr. John H. Jamison opened his store on Indianola Avenue. At that time, there were only two tools stores in town and they were both located on the north side of town. The Mr.Jamison's store was the first grocery store in town and it was known for its great selection of Tools and other items related to construction and farming. In 1872, Mr. Jamison moved his business to what is now the corner of Sherman and Indianola Avenues in order to better serve the growing community. There were several other businesses that operated at this location before Mr. Jamison's store became the most popular spot in town for shopping for tools, hardware, bicycles, groceries, etc., until he closed his business years later in 1916. In 1923, a company called NAGCO was formed which built a plant at what is now Speedway Boulevard and Newton Avenue in order to produce tools for farmers throughout Nebraska. This factory remained active until 1957 when it was donated by NAGCO to the Omaha Public Library system as part of their Tool Collection Program. After being stored at the library system for many years, it was decided that it would be more practical and efficient to move thetool museum into new storage facilities so that it could remain open as a permanent exhibit while new buildings are constructed near Interstate 80 east of downtown Omaha (see below). In 1991-1992, after more than 20 years languishing on an unused lot behind local high school (see below), multi tool enthusiasts from around central Nebraska gathered together at Central City Golf Course where we conceived the idea of creating a multi tool museum adjacent to our facility (see photo). We soon realized that there were many potential donors who wanted something similar done within their community so we flew out volunteers from all over central Nebraska with instructions on how to build/ maintain such an artifact! After months of hard work we finally accomplished our goal - Multi Tool Museum - openJuly 1st 1999! Thank you everyone who helped make this happen!

Lincoln believed that if he could win over enough farmers in this area he could build support for his Republican Party candidacy throughout America. As a result, Fremont County became one of Lincoln’s favorite counties to campaign in during his two terms as president. Lincoln also played an important role in helping create Omaha by providing financial assistance to its founder – John Doniphan – after he bought land adjacent to the city from German settlers in 1859. Doniphan wanted to develop Omaha into an economic center like Chicago but lacked the resources or backing to do so alone. With help from Lincoln and other government officials such as Secretary Salmon P Chase, Omaha quickly became one of America’s most prosperous cities due to its booming cattle industry and newly developed railroads. Today, much about Nebraska history can be found on display at various museums around town including the University Museum of American History;the Western History Museum;the Drake Museum;the State Historical Society;and many more locations across town! While some aspects are more well-known than others – such as Native Americans living among early European settlers or Lincoln playing a significant role in helping form Omaha – every bit of information available about this state’s past allows us to better understand how today’s citizens view theirroots back into history…
