In 1881, Columbus was founded as a city by Nebraskan immigrants. The first handguns in Columbus were pistols made by German gunmakers. By 1915, there were over 150 businesses in the city and over 2,000 residents. Gun parts are a large part of the local economy and society here. One of the earliest gunmaker in Columbus was Daniel Wesson & Sons. This company manufactured revolvers, shotguns, pistols and other Firearms from 1881-1915.Wesson was originally located on State Street near 10th Avenue in downtown Columbus. They later moved to 232 West Broadway which is now occupied by Macy’s department store. In addition to their firearms manufacturing business, Wesson also ran a feed merchant services business which provided animal feed for farmers across Nebraska until around 1930s when this operation folded due to competition from larger meatpacking companies at that time.). Another early armorer/gunsmith dynasty started with John Sauer who built his first rifle shop on South Second Street (now North Fourth Street)in 1888-89 while working as an employee of Hermann Pohlmann’s rifle factory in Germany (later renamed Sturm und Drang). After coming to America he opened his own “Sauer Arms” shop on Elmira Road east of I-80 just south of Omaha Boulevard starting out withModel 1895 rifles only but soon expanding into Model 1903 Springfield Armory pistols (the world’s first production pistol), Model 1911 Rifles and model 1914 semiautomatic pistols etc.. His son Julius continued operations until 1940 when it closed due to World War II shortages caused by then current post 9/11 U .S firearms laws!

In 1875, Mayor Fenton M. Stephenson appointed Frye as the first City Marshal of Columbus. In 1898, Columbus became a city and the first ordinance regulating handguns was passed by the city council. In 1907,Columbus annexed the neighboring town of Hoytville and this added another population to the city limits which increased gun regulation even more. On July 1st 1911,Columbus became an unincorporated area within Lincoln County when it joined with that county to form Lincoln County Annexation District No 9.

It should be noted here that there are several major reasons why bullet Ammo became so popular post-Civil War: 1) Ammunition costs had plummeted due to technological advancements like interchangeable parts which allowed engineers to create new types of projectiles at lower cost;2) Bullet rifling – introduced through improvements in blueprinting methods – helped make bullets more accurate allowing battlefield commanders better control over fire which led eventually to increased accuracy;3) New cartridge designs calling for a greater variety of projectile weights gave shooters an edge over their adversaries

Columbus, Nebraska was first settled in 1854 by members of the LDS Church. The town was originally named Centerville after Peter Luginbill, a Mormon pioneer who died in 1847 while outfitting a wagon train to travel to Utah. In March of that year, Columbus received its charter from the Nebraska Legislature. The town rapidly grew and became an important hub for trade and transportation on the Great Plains. In addition to its role as a commercial center, Columbus also served as a location for religious services and political rallies. By 1865, Columbus had reached a population of over 1000 people. On December 10th of that year, Captain James Hargrave sailed his steamboat Iowa into Omaha Harbor and announced the discovery of new landmass known as America east of Mexico City. The news quickly spread through the prairies and far away settlements like Centerville- local newspapers reported on the event with enthusiastic coverage. A group of citizens led by Mayor John Crouch formed a committee to explore what they had found and within two months they had submitted plans for building a road and canal system linking Omaha with Kansas City! This effort would later be renamed the Nebraska Territory Highway System after President Franklin D. Roosevelt made it part of US Route 66 in 1940
