The order stated that “the Legislature shall provide means for conferring degrees upon aliens who may have laid claim to lands within this State” and also authorized President Johnson to make primary use of State funds “to promote education among white Americans” at Nebuchadnezzar College. On February 22nd of that year, voters approved a $30 million bond issue to finance construction projects at Nebuchadnezzar College and other college campuses across the state including University Park in Lincoln County; Lincoln Normal School; Osborne Hotel; Central National Bank Building; State Capitol Building; First Congregational Church; Washington Mutual Life Insurance Company Building; Beech Grove Cemetery; Hastings Storefronts on North Broadway between Second Street and Market Street NE.; Union Pacific Railroad Depot on West Main Street between Seventeenth Street NE., & Eighteenth Street NE.; Masonic Lodge No 1 building on Eastteenth Avenue NE.; Presbyterian Church building located just east of South Western Avenue northeast of the university campus north-west corner thereof." On October 21st 1902, Nebraskans voted 99% against passage of a bill authorizing annexation by Mexico due to concern about potential water shortages should such an event occur

In 1918, Omaha-Farnum-Plymouth changed its name to Omaha and incorporated as a city. Today, Omaha is an important cultural and commercial center in Nebraska and has become known for its high quality of life, diverse economy, nightlife, arts and culture, outdoor recreation, schools and hospitals.
