Bullets have been a part of Columbus, Nebraska since the 1800s. One of the first bullet manufacturers in Nebraska was J.B. Hunt Bullet Company, which produced rounds for both handguns and rifles dating back to 1892. Bullets for shotguns were also produced at this time, but only in limited quantities. The first truly mass-produced bullets in Omaha were made by David Brown & Sons Ammunition Company in 1922. In 1932, a new company called Winchester Arms Corporation was founded in Omaha with the goal of becoming the leading producer of ammunition for firearms and hunting purposes. In 1937, Winchester merged with Remington Arms Company to form what is now Remington Outdoor Co., Incorporated (ROI). ROI became one of the world's largest ammunition producers and remains so to this day. With such an extensive history associated with bullets, it's no surprise that there are many different types and brands available on store shelves today. Fremont named his discovery after Christopher Columbus—the European navigator who led an expedition across North America many times between 1492 and 1504—and also reported back to Spain about his findings. Fremont's achievement helped spur settlement in this region, which began with farmers moving into what is now Omaha during the 1830s. By 1840, Omaha had become a thriving city with a population of more than 100,000 people. The city became an important center for commerce and culture in western Nebraska; its architecture reflects this period of growth and change. Today, Omaha remains one of America's most vibrant cities – home to great restaurants and businesses as well as some of the most impressive skyline views in all of downtown Chicago or New York City. Columbus, Nebraska is a town located in Lancaster County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 1,695 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded by Columbus and other pioneers in 1872 as a small farming community on the edge of Sioux City. Growth came slowly until 1907 when it became an incorporated municipality with a population of 2,500. A year later, the city annexed neighboring towns of Blue Rapids and Westville. In 1912, Columbus became the site of what would become one of America's largest inland water crossings; the Iowa–Nebraska state line was crossed at Columbus by American Construction Company's Erie Canal boat Daring which had sailed from Buffalo, New York to Council Bluffs on Lake Nebo for its owner John Davenport II to see. In 1939, during World War II, Columbus became one of three sites chosen for air raid protection in Omaha; other two were Grand Island and Bellevue Heights. The air raid shelters were built over open fields near High Street and Broadway Avenue (now Northwest Highway) east of downtown with concrete blocks and metal roofing to protect people from firebombing during wartime bombings raids against Chicago that began on December 15th 1941. As a result of these raids local businesses closed their doors for several days as employees sheltered inside their buildings or took cover under parked cars until bombs stopped falling outside their windows. After World War II ended there was little demand for housing once again in central Omaha so developers started building subdivisions instead around central streets like Delaware Avenue (now First Street) between Washington Boulevard and Ohio Street where residents could buy homes without fear of bombing raids anymore or being terraced onto one’s property like those living south side along Dayton Street did after the war ended because they were not given enough warning about impending military action in Poland just across the border then known as Warsaw Pact member country but later called Soviet Union due to post-war changes therein). These subdivisions attracted new settlers who wanted easy access to material goods now that war production had stopped which also led some business owners to re-open which helped continue growth even into today’s years despite all that has happened since annexations happened back then including major flooding events in 2013/2014 that caused significant damage done both inside and outside city limits including roofs off many highrise buildings within city limits while still causing much inconvenience to everyone concerned egress/ingress issues caused by massive amounts flooding entering/exiting through openings such as driveways particularly on busy arterial streets like Delaware Avenue especially when heavy rains fall Torrential rainstorms have occurred more than once every few months averaging about 25 inches per month making life difficult even if it doesn't cause any structural damage although some residents do find comfort knowing their home insurance will cover most such incidents regardless if their home is actually hit by a bomb).
