Bellevue, Nebraska is a city located in the U.S. state of Nebraska. The population was 61,883 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Bellevue County and home to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. The history of Bellevue began with an encampment by American Indians near what is now downtown Bellevue on November 15, 1871. This event is commemorated by a plaque inside City Hall that reads "Erected In Memory Of Those Who Fought For Our Liberty In The Battle Of Omaha." The first rifles were built in Bellevue in 1892 by J.H. Stevens & Sons rifle company, which was started by local entrepreneur John H Stevens II as a business venture to sell guns to farmers and surveyors in the area around Omaha and Council Bluffs Iowa. After moving into his current location on Main Street in 1912, J H Stevens continued making rifles until he retired from his business in 1978; his son-in-law Don Hegedus operated the business until its sale to Remington Arms Co., Incorporated on March 1, 1984. When Remington Arms Company became part of Winchester Repeating Arms Company (WRAC) in 1903, WRAC moved its manufacturing operations from New Haven Connecticut to Bellevue Nebraska because of WRAC's sponsorship of UNLV's football team during that time period (Winchester had been a partner with Plainsman Rifle Ammunition since 1898). At this time also, Belleview became known as "the Arsenal" due to its role within WRAC as both a manufacturing center for ammunition products and also as headquarters for all northern Illinois activities worldwide including research and development for firearms products and services across various divisions within WRAC Headquarters building located at 6th Avenue South between State Street and Roosevelt Boulevard in Springfield Illinois). Continued production took place here until 1993 when federal regulations prohibiting military contracts led to the closure of many Michigan-based gun manufacturers including Winchester Repeating Arms Company; however Remington continued producing shotguns under license through another subsidiary named Mossberg & Sons until it too closed down in 1995 amidst congressional efforts not just to ban assault weapons but also large numbers imported handguns such as Ruger handguns which were becoming popular among law enforcement agencies both domestic and foreign alike after being made available through import substitution programs run by other companies such as Glock Corporation which had been brought over from Germany following World War I) . Bellevue rifle stocks history can be traced back to 1892 when the Bellevue Rifle Club was organized. The Bellevue Rifle Club was a group of men who enjoyed shooting rifles and participated in many competitions. One of the club's members, John Wirth, manufactured rifles for the club and developed a style of gun that is still used today. The first rifle stock made in Bellevue was made by John Wirth and it consisted of a piece of hardwood plank with a round hole drilled through it. This stock was used by the Bellevue Rifle Club to shoot their rifles. In 1897, another member of theclub, Clarence Brown, began manufacturing rifle stocks from an improved version of Wirth's original design. These new rifle stocks were called "BellevUE" stocks because they were designed for use with the Belgian-made "Belgian Model 1899 Infantry Weapon." In 1902, Edwin Howells became president of the Bellevue Rifle Club and he decided to stop making rifle stocks for other clubs and start his own company which would produce all types of firearms including rifles. The company name was howells Firearms Company and until this day it continues to produce firearmstocks under this name. Clarence Brown also started producing riflestocks for howells Firearms Company but his designs were much different from those used by Edwin Howells at Bellevue Rifle Club. Brown's stocks featured blade-like edges on both sides of the stock which helped reduce wear on Shooting Exercises bolts that were fired into each stock during competitive shooting sessions. These new styles also replaced traditional round buttocks with modern pistol grip handles which gave shooters greater control over their weapons while firing them at close range! In 1911, Edward Cockerill became president of howells Firearms Company and he decided to discontinue production of deer hunting firearms due to high demand from hunters around the world who wanted these guns specifically designed for deer hunting purposes rather than shotguns that could be used for other purposes such as target practice or self-defense! Cockerill also decided that howell Firearms Company should concentrate its efforts solely onproducing military firearms such as artillery rockets, machineguns, aircrafts etc! This decision created great enthusiasm among many people within howell Firearms Company who saw this opportunity to become oneofthe leading producersoffirearms worldwide!

The town was founded in 1854 by Captain John Stephenson and became a village in 1865. Bellevue is one of several towns that formed the Bellevue–Neenah Micropolitan Statistical Area when it was created in 2000. In 1898, Bellevue became the site of what would be called "The First World War". A contingent of soldiers from Bellevue gathered on Linn Creek to launch an attack on Native Americans who were gathering around Fort Kearny for ceremonial purposes. The resulting battle resulted in five dead Indians and twenty-five wounded soldiers from both sides. In 1923, Drury College opened its doors for the first time in Bellevue with seventy-eight students enrolled from fourteen countries including America and Canada. In 1954, Bellevue incorporated as a city under Section 8 law which allowed cities to establish regulations governing public health, education, economic development and other areas without having to obtain formal legislation from the state or federal governments. In 1984, Belleview Elementary School closed due to budget cuts made by then Mayor Tom Happel Sr.. After much outcry from citizens and local businesses alike, Mayor Happel reopened Belleview Elementary School with new equipment and rebuilt it into one of the most successful elementary schools in town -serving not only kids living within walking distance but also those who had to travel further away for school owing to overcrowding at other nearby schools (and more importantly families whose children were too young or too old To attend school). For many years after that election victory – through mayoral administrations Quinton Bancroft (1998-2002), Don Huffman (2002-2006) & Pat Dunn (2007-present) – Belleview Elementary remained on schedule despitefluctuations caused by global events like hurricanes Katrina & Rita; droughts; & play dates for Christmas Day Parade).
