It was located on North Second Street in Bellevue and sold lens, spectacles, eyeglasses, and other optical supplies. In 1916, the store moved to its current location on West Third Street. In 1934, the King family sold the business to Mabel Drexel who operated it until her death in 1961. The store was then passed down through several generations until it was purchased by Harry Lasker in 1984. Lasker operated it until 1991 when it closed due to financial difficulties.

In recent decades, growth has been slow due to low commodity prices and competition from larger providers such as Comcast/NBCUniversal and Google Fiber; however, there are plans to revive development by adding new businesses such as elected officials housing developments on formerly undeveloped land adjacent to City Hall Square near Interstate 235; a new elementary school district that will include all wards within city limits; a high-rise apartment complex featuring views across the Scioto River into Omaha; an expansion for CenturyLink Field making it home field for the Omaha Royals baseball team; and redevelopment around Depot Square that includes retail space along Main Street while also creating office buildings that could house 50 or more jobs

Today, many people from throughout central Nebraska live and work in Bellevue thanks to its plethora of cultural attractions including two universities (Nebraska Wesleyan University and Amherst College), several restaurants/bars/cafes/stores/, three casinos (Aurora Casino & Resort, Mirage casino & resort, Thunder Valley casino), as well as several professional sports teams including the Nebraska Wesleyan Huskers football team and the Omaha Mavericks basketball team- all located within walking distance of one another!
